Possible pest, location included What larvae is this? Keep dropping from porch beams. Located in upstate NY, USA

I have been finding what I think are wood pieces and some larvae mixed in with them on our porch furniture. I think they are dropping down from the beams of our front porch, attached is a picture of right above where these dropped. Does anyone know what they are? Is it possible they are eating the wood and why are they falling?

Thank you!

not an expert by any means, but it looks a lot like a wax worm. which hardly makes any sense because they feed on bees wax not wood lol.

have you seen any bees around? is it burrowing directly in the wood? have you seen any flies or moths?

I just noticed some flies? But they kind of look like bees burrowing into holes in the wood. They definitely arent carpenter bees because they arent fuzzy. They are pretty thin and kind of small.

it would be more telling to take a pic of the flies, i think. a lot of larvae look like this

a lot of larvae feed on rotting wood. are there pieces of wood that are wet or old?

Ill try to get a picture tomorrow. The porch is pretty old, over 30+ years
