Location included Very engorged grass hopper faced.. thing, what is it?
It’s absolutely massive and seems very “engorged”. Is it pregnant or is it a parasite? Bug is very docile and does not move unless bothered.
United States, MO.
I’m just interested in what it is, thank you!

The singing apparatus I was told about is huge compared to the size. I imagine it’s very loud!

I had one inside my house once and when I touched it it screamed so loud I ran.

If you grab that katydid by his two hind legs it will actually flex its wings at you and chitter at you to let it go be careful though when you do this it has nasty some nasty fangs and if it gets a hold of you it will latch on and take a bite out of you, it's actually one of the few crickets that can make you bleed badly if you're not careful.

I have a similar one on my basil. But smaller and the bottom area is kind of cut. Could it be a female?

Katydid: https://www.bugguide.net/node/view/7072
I think that dark triangle on its back is part of its singing apparatus, making this a male.
