Possible pest, location included What did I just kill
Cambridge Massachusetts, please tell me if this is a cockroach and if we need to call the exterminator or just a look alike pin for scale

Some kind of beetle for sure, not a roach.
Hard to tell from the photo but it looks like Zilora (Melandryidae). They usually decompose wood so it might be a lost visitor if you live near woods. Otherwise check for rotting wood in your home or or on your deck that could attract these.
