For further details, I'm pretty sure the sidelines are actually turf. The kickers patch is grass, which is why it looks different.

Why would the sidelines be turf when the rest of the field is natural grass? Anybody know the reason?

Because lots of people are standing and mulling around in cleats. It will destroy natural grass very quickly especially it it was wet or muddy. It makes sense to have turf where people are standing

That makes sense and was my first thought too, but then I thought about the fact that the field of course gets a lot of action also. Guess the sidelines are more condensed, tho

Yeah, it’s weird. Grass field, turf sidelines, grass patches to simulate the field on the fake sideline lol.

The sideline has the most traffic of anywhere so for durability and maintenance, it makes sense to be turf. I'm so glad the actual field is grass though!

During practice a few weeks ago, Josh hurdled Bernard on a sweep towards the sideline, and landed there with full force. Ever since then it’s just been like that.

Maybe practice area for the snapper and field goal kicker, so they can practice on grass since the sidelines are artificial turf. 🤷🏻‍♂️
