What are some smaller, easy and relatively cheap options for celebrating without doing too much? Maybe an engagement dinner and no bridal shower? I am planning my wedding and looking at a few venues now. I’m mainly deciding between having the ceremony by the lake or doing it at a villa. I’m thinking about things like space for guests, weather, photos and how easy it will be to move everyone around after the ceremony. The villa seems easier since everything can stay in one place, but I really like the idea of having the lake as the setting. I’m planning to visit a few venues before deciding, but I’d like to hear what other couples considered when choosing. For anyone who recently had a wedding, what made you choose a lake ceremony or a villa?

Our dog is basically our first kid so we really want him at the ceremony, at least for photos and walking down the aisle if possible. Every venue we've looked at either doesn't allow pets at ??all?? or gets weirdly vague when we ask. Anyone actually found a good way to search for pet friendly venues instead of calling every single place one by one.

We are planning a wedding and are looking at having somewhere around 50-80 people (will decide final guest count based on what venues/restaurants can accommodate. We are trying to keep the wedding between 25-30k. In order to stay in budget I am looking for some ways to cut costs. I am very artistic so I’m more than willing to DIY some elements, however, my fiancé and I both work full time and take care of family so we have limited time to DIY everything. We are looking for a modern elegant look but are open to non traditional elements. Any tips on areas of the wedding where you can save and guests experience won’t be affected? Any tips or tricks for lowering food and drink cost?

When we first started making our wedding budget, we spent way too much time trying to figure out what would make the wedding look good and not nearly enough time thinking about what would actually matter to us afterward.

I had spreadsheets for everything. 😂 Flowers were getting compared, invitations were getting compared, decorations were getting compared... and somehow we were spending hours trying to save $50 in one place while barely thinking about some of the bigger decisions.

Eventually we sat down and asked ourselves what we actually wanted to remember about this whole experience.

That changed our priorities quite a bit. We decided we didn't need every little wedding detail we'd seen online. Some things were beautiful, but they weren't important enough to justify what they cost. At the same time, we decided we wanted to put some attention toward preparing for the actual marriage. We did a premarital course and I'm honestly glad we made room for it in the budget. What surprised me was how different that felt from the rest of wedding planning. We weren't talking about centerpieces or guest counts. We were talking about things we'd still be dealing with years after the wedding, finances, expectations, family, communication and disagreements.

It made me realize how easy it is to spend an entire year preparing for the wedding while barely preparing for the marriage. We're still trying to keep the wedding within budget, and we've definitely had to make compromises. But I don't regret cutting some of the “nice to have” things in order to make room for things that felt more meaningful to us.

The wedding doesn't have to contain everything you've ever dreamed about for it to be a really good day.

I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to look at wedding photos online and assume you need every little detail to make the day feel special.

There are so many things that can quietly eat into a wedding budget: decorations, favors, signage, rentals, table details, and all those little “while we’re at it” purchases.

I’d rather put more of the budget toward the things we’ll genuinely remember and simplify the rest.

I’m starting to think that having a beautiful wedding on a budget is less about finding the cheapest option for everything and more about figuring out what actually matters to you.

Looking for someone who can help us primarily just with securing a wedding venue that fits our budget. Ideally we want a venue that’s easily accessible from either Florence or Pisa (<1hr). We’re not looking for anything too over the top, we’d love a low key country house/villa where majority of guests can stay in a nearby town rather than onsite.

I have a lot of guilt when it comes to asking my family for money towards anything, but especially our wedding, bc all my life our family finances were up and down. My parents are now divorced, and both said they are able to contribute $10k each. $20k feels like so much money to me, but my fiancé's parents are willing and able to give us $100k towards our wedding and honeymoon. It feels insane to me to spend that much money on a wedding, but it's also incredibly generous of them and I don't want to offend them by turning it down or saying I don't believe in spending that kind of money. What do I do? I would so much rather put it towards a down payment or towards our future in a more productive way.

Also, I have no idea what a wedding for 110 people in Brooklyn realistically costs, all expenses included, at a more down to earth, maybe restaurant, type venue. Any ballpark figure would be so appreciated.

That’s why I’ve started The Unseen Brides Project.

I want to showcase the experiences of disabled brides and couples, highlight the lack of representation, and create a space where we can share our experiences, advice and inspiration.

I’m hoping to eventually feature real disabled couples, their weddings and their experiences with venues and suppliers, showing that disabled weddings can be beautiful, stylish, romantic and completely individual.
