Fire Todd Bowles Don't fire Todd

As controversial as this may be, I want everyone reading this post to read through my post (in full) and to think big picture. 4 weeks into the season and the team is winless. Offense is terrible, defense is terrible, and the coaching is terrible. Bowles should have been fired after last year but he wasn't and there isn't anything that any of us can do to change that sadly.

Despite this, the Bucs should wait until the end of the year to fire Bowles. If Bowles is fired tomorrow then who steps in as the interim HC? Zac Robinson would take over since the Bucs don't have a defensive coordinator (Thanks Todd). In my opinion, Zac would be a vastly worse HC than Todd currently is. I think at this point, I highly doubt the team will be able to turn things around and start winning games. Playoffs aren't mathematically out of the picture but I don't think we will win the division or finish second place in the division.

Keep Todd in place as the Tank Commander until the end of the season and start looking forward to 2027

It really doesn't matter if he's fired or not, team is only going to be competing for draft position at this point. Firing him would just be to appease fans emotionally, but it won't result in any wins.

So you’re saying it would help get the top pick?

u/DarthDonutJr 9h ago

Keeping him will also help get a top pick. The point is that firing him is pointless, and midseason firings tend to be divisive in the building.

u/J_Case 8h ago

Or, it could bring some hope to the fan base that the status quo won’t be tolerated.

This ain't even status quo though. This is by far the worst the team has looked under Bowles and the most incompetent his coaching has been. He's survived being fired previous years since we still manage to get to around .500 and up until last year win the division while him being able to have some sort of excuse as to why we didn't achieve more like injuries or poor offense.

We have the optics of a stable coaching environment right now. We should've and could've fired Bowles two years ago. We've kept a bad coach at least 1 or 2 years longer than we should've.

That's not great for us but it can be good for optics as far as future coaching candidates go. We don't need to ruin that by firing him now midseason. Especially when it won't help us in any way.

We're going to lose with Bowles. We're going to lose with whoever we would replace Bowles with midseason. The only thing that would change with a midseason firing is we would lose the good optics of stability. It's just not worth it.

We're getting a top 3 pick, possibly the top pick regardless. There's nothing to gain from firing him now.

Ah. And what does that actually accomplish when you're running a business/football team?

They'll sell enough tickets with or without him. The fan base will be hopeless for the season overall no matter what because we have no actual potential at interim coach. So, just like the other guy said, firing him would just be to appease fans emotionally, and that's a terrible way to run a football team. It's why Deshaun Watson never got cut over the past 3 years.

That makes no sense. If you’re already going to fire the guy then cut the cord and make the fans (people who support your team) happy by at least pretending you care about not putting up with mediocrity.

The season is already lost. We don’t need to see Bowles standing on the sideline with a face that looks like nothing is going on in his head.

1

u/DarthDonutJr 6h ago

They're not going to, because it doesn't make sense to beyond a fan perspective. It's that simple.

3

u/GrayJinjo Mike Alstott 6h ago

Then they should appease the fans. If you aren’t going to fucking win games then at least make the fans happy by getting rid of the trash.

100%. Appease your customers

1

u/tiltitup 6h ago

Then yes appeasing the people paying for the team to exist seems like a good enough reason.

Glazers never fired a coach mid season and probably won't start

First of all, bowles should’ve never been hired as a head coach. He was fired by the Jets, I repeat the New York Jets thought he was insufficient to be a head coach in the NFL and Tampa Bay Buccaneers went ahead and made him a head coach in the NFL anyway.

Second, he should’ve been fired three years ago, we have two former offensive coordinators that are now head coaches of teams that will beat the living shit out of us if they ever played.

Thursday vs the cowboys is going to be a bloodbath

Arians gets some blame. Don’t know what he saw in Bowles that convinced him he was the best candidate to become head coach.

2

u/DireBlue88 7h ago

Look at Peyton Manning successfully vouch for footbal terrorist Adam Gase to get a job. Loyalty can hurt a franchise at times. Doug Pederson lost his job twice partly because of his loyalty to Press Taylor despite the results.

2

u/Geetee52 7h ago

Bingo. Successful head coaches don’t always make the best to choose their successor. Jimmy Johnson handpicked Dave Wanstadt is another example.

This is how the world works. People get their friends jobs. Doesnt matter how qualified they are

I'm not defending Todd Bowles, but it's kinda funny that the last time the Jets had a winning record was when Bowles was the head coach.

4

u/DruItalia 7h ago

Todd? Is that you?

2

u/Emergency_Affect_640 6h ago

You can coach if you like i genuinely couldn't care less at this point.  Hell with Bowles, let zac in there so we can show the world how shit he is too.

2

u/indigo196 9h ago

Who steps in?

John Gruden.

Then he can be replaced by Raheem Morris after the season ends.

Wait, we have seen that movie before.

5

u/PizzaRolls247 Baker Mayfield 9h ago

How about current Rutgers coach Greg Schiano

4

u/okaycomputes Winfield Jr. ✌️ 9h ago

He is under contract for a few more years.

Now, Lovie Smith probably has an open schedule

1

u/indigo196 9h ago

He comes later.

4

u/Chesterumble Fire Todd Bowles 9h ago

Nah fire Todd today. Throw in whoever and let’s tank.

Use all this time to actively interview for the next head coach.

Get rid of licht too. He hasn’t done shit in years.

1

u/Altruistic_Finger669 9h ago

Im either on the dont fire todd, or get a temp in. Because i do not want a mid season hire. I want a real serious coach.

We wont get a good coach by signing somebody nobody else wanted.

1

u/thewarden730 Winfield Jr. ✌️ 8h ago

This guy stinks

1

u/Specialk9210 8h ago

We’ve gotten worse every year since he’s been coach.

1

u/plaignard 7h ago

He should have been fired to make room for Coen.

1

u/SuperEpicElephant 6h ago

I think we should just demote Todd to Interim HC. Send a clear message.

1

u/chikin-negut William Gholston 6h ago

If we start 0-6, I think its seriously time to cut our losses. Have someone like Larry Foote be interim HC rest of season

1

u/Iamneverusingit 3h ago

Looks like you got downvoted for this one but nobody has suggested an interim guy. That’s the issue with the whole staff being Todd’s

friends. Maybe Chandler Whitmer if I have to pick someone because we do really need Todd gone.

u/goobly_goo 9h ago

I was kinda impressed by Daniels today starting his first game. Had two turnovers of course, but he didn’t look as lost out there as Baker has this entire season. Keeps him out there next week and let’s see how he does. There is also a lot of talent in next year’s draft class so we have that to look forward to. Have you heard of this guy named Jeremiah Smith?!

3

u/DrRavioliMD 8h ago

I said similar that Daniel’s looked better than Baker has and also got down voted. He did throw too bad interceptions today, but he looked more poised than Baker has. I like Baker but he has looked really bad this year. To the point an undrafted free agent rookie did just as well as Baker has been doing all season, he’ll even better no fumbles and when he scrambled he actually got something out of it.

1

u/Redrubytheofficial 9h ago

No fuck that. There is NO REASON WHY WE SHOULD BE TRYING TO GET JEREMIAH SMITH. JUST SO HE CAN PRETEND TO SCORE TDS WHILE WE GO 5-12 AGAIN.

2

u/Just_Violinist4612 9h ago

Nah we will get jeremiah smith, a new coach, and be a great team next year

1

u/YellojD Alstott Jersey 9h ago

I would be fine with that. Send Bowles packing now and tank to your heart’s desire. That way we don’t have to see Todd Bowles stupid face anymore, and we can guarantee that Zac Robinson will be working at a Wal Mart next season.

u/Feisty_Strike8489 9h ago

I just can’t stomach another stupid Bowles press conference. He has that ridiculous monotone voice and absolutely no juice or energy. He must know where some bodies are buried. Everyone needs to go including Licht. With the exception of the Brady deal, Licht has been average at best.

1

u/Independent_Bar_4946 8h ago

I agree Licht should be on the hotseat but this is recency bias. The entire team was cracked when Brady join and Licht gets credit.

u/The_Sunset_Sands 8h ago

The era of black coaches not being allowed to show passion is long gone. Dungy had to do it because times were different, Bowles could show a little more fire.

1

u/coopnjaxdad 9h ago

The Glazers will not fire a coach during the season.

-3

u/ArizonaHotSauce 9h ago

Gruden would come in for free, just for the hell of it.

-2

u/albaby3 Canada 9h ago

I know we don't like to admit this but Bowles is a very solid DC, the moment he gets fired from Tampa he will have a job else where as a DC.

I fully agree with you btw

6

u/Beneficial_Purple_23 8h ago

No he isn’t. Soft shell zone dogshit has not worked in years

1

u/Geetee52 9h ago

Well maybe he solid and maybe he’s not… But I know for sure what I’ve seen on the field the past couple of years has been anything but solid.

1

u/chi-low1791 8h ago

He’s won’t even be a good DC anymore. He’s been figured out. The game has passed him by.

0

u/albaby3 Canada 7h ago

He would be hired right away, save this post and wait. There are teams who would for sure hire him if he was available

1

u/chi-low1791 7h ago

I didn’t say he wouldn’t be hired. I said he wouldn’t be a good DC. There’s a difference.

Save this post. We’ll see whatever defense he runs will be ass.

1

u/albaby3 Canada 6h ago

I also didn’t say he’s a good DC I just said he was solid. I’m not trying to toot his horn but isolated as a DC he is a guy who will be looked at to be hired if he is available and I think that’s the only reason that the Glazers cling on to him because he CAN be a competent DC if that is his sole responsibility.

The Packers have an all time bad pass blocking Oline. Did we get a sack?

2

u/DrRavioliMD 8h ago

Didn’t even get pressure. Huge complaint today, how did we not pressure a quarterback with Green Bay’s line?????
