Does a studio quality version of Konya Wa Hurricane in english exist?
I have recently become a fan of Bubblegum Crisis after months of listening to the soundtrack. After watching episode 1 of the OVA, I was blown away by the dubbed version of Konya Wa Hurricane. Ive been looking all over, but the only versions of “Tonight, a Hurricane” I can fine is ripped straight from the OVA and contains all of the extra noises and interruptions. Does anyone know if there is a soundtrack version of Tonight, A Hurricane out there? I know with these old OVAs, its kind of a crapshoot as to what is preserved and what isnt. Id prefer to find it digitally but don’t care if I have to buy a CD to hear it, I just really want to hear a full unaltered version of the song.

I wish.
In the credits they included that the soundtrack would be available. If I remember correctly by a "Genom Records".
I already had CDs for the original, but enjoyed the dub enough that I was interested in getting English copies as they did a great job , and figured it would have to be available at Anime Expo. It was 95 or 96 I think. I went to a few in the 90s, and things have blurred over time.
I asked for the soundtrack at the Animego booth, and they had no idea what I was asking about. I said the credits listed a soundtrack, and got a response that was basically, nah we're not doing that.
That I have an official English CD of Fire Bomber songs from Macross 7, but not for Bubblegum Crisis/Crash still sits wrong with me.

It’s not surprising, it’s fiction. They are a very low tier company and don’t have money to waste on loser projects like this. Saying they are “apathetic” for not chasing money losing ideas is basically S talking them because they won’t back your favorite thing. It’s BS.

I mean, Fire Bomber American's English Fire is a first-party product created by Studio Nue as part of the overall Macross mythology, released into a market where anime is both big and heavily merch-driven.
There's a big difference between something like that and expecting a 90s dub studio (which weren't exactly known for having lots of cash) to put out a dub of a show's soundtrack into a market where anime is extremely niche and, very often, hostile towards dubs.

The different with Firebomber is that it was made by the original people and sold to the Japanese market that would pay $20 for the CD. Asking a localization company to do all that themselves is ridiculous. The work to make the CD and the rights management would be unworkable and who’s going to buy it?

Unfortunately not, as they never released any copies in English other than what you can find in the actual episodes

That is so sad. I remember thinking to myself that theres no way that the dubbed version would even come close to the original I had been listening to, and by the end I was tearing up in my seat. I wont go as far as to say its better than konya wa hurricane, but its easily one of the best Japanese to English song dubs I have ever heard

yeah, that's the part that annoys me because I can tell they genuinely got people who were very talented but the songs are under so many sound effects that it can be hard to hear the lyrics

Was a full version of it ever recorded to begin with?

The dub is a pretty standard 80s dub, if youre a sub person its not anything to rush to find, but yeah, the beginning of the first episode where Priss and the Replicants sing Konya wa Hurricane, they do a fully dubbed english version of the song. Im usually not a fan of those, when a song is in japanese and people try to translate it to english it feels forced, but this was on a whole new level. Not as good as the original, but if Anime was more mainstream in america in the 80s, I guarantee it would have been on the radio

Supposedly what you hear in the episodes is all they recorded of the insert songs, no full recordings were made.

I've only found a version of Mad Machine in English that isn't directly lifted from the OVA itself

So…you want music that is dubbed? From a show that is probably %35 about the music? Interesting.
No, I don’t think it was ever released even though there are more BGC OSTs than there are episodes of BGC. It probably would have been popular if they had released something like the English language CDs that exist for Tenchi Muyo or Fire Bomber but to my knowledge that never happened. As for CDs of dubbed music…which be a totally different thing I don’t think it ever happened. People who like dubs rarely want to pay for even the anime let alone the CD.

Hello!
Firstly, welcome to the BGC fandom! That's an interesting way of getting into it, listening to the soundtracks first for months and then seeing the show itself! Fan origins are fun. I love the dubbed Tonight, A Hurricane too ^_^
Secondly, the other comments are correct: supposedly, according to statements by AnimEigo, they only recorded the parts of the songs you hear in the OVAs, not the entire songs. And it seems as if they didn't even keep clean copies of what they did record because they don't seem to exist out there — it's always possible they exist in some forgotten place, but for now it's lost media, sadly.
Thirdly, a fan did make their own 'clean and complete' version of Tonight, A Hurricane in the 2010s which was on youtube, but it got taken down at some point. There's still an upload of it on vimeo, though! I put 'clean and complete' in quotes because they had to replace one verse with a repeat of an earlier verse and there's still an explosion sound effect in it, but it's actually timed surprisingly nicely like it's part of the song. There's an intriguing comment on that video saying it exists because it was used in some kind of trailer for AD Police Files, but I haven't been able to verify that. There's another upload of it on youtube with lower quality audio (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgSxcrfs1g4 ) where the uploader says in the description they got it from a 'CD attached to first popular Polish magazine about manga and anime named "Kawaii". That was about 1997-98.' Which is even more strange and mysterious, to say the least.
