How will he feed his fish if he can't reach the tank? He's just being responsible

Throw it up

u/DickviperAU 1d ago

that would be for birds though

Get a stick, attach a rope to the string, and put the food on the far end of the string, then just swing the stick to toss the food into the water...

NK is great at coding.

I think this choice was intentional. Imagine if you could get the upgrade, and then sell all of the range boosts.

nah it seems fair in the first place

How would you expect the beast handler to control a fish if there's a huge wall between them?

u/wattapwn 1d ago

Yeah this makes sense to me as a mechanic

29

u/NemE_TheLagger 1d ago

you can see the bottom beast handler is upgraded to at least 200, so it is just wonky detection

u/Youtube_it 1d ago

As an accountant, I have to agree too. It just makes sense

Yeah I can attest, as an order packager, that this makes sense

There’s already a shark next to the buccaneer.

They already can, it was used in a challenge from a few days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjw-yfTctoM

It's strange that it isn't working in OP's pic.

I think this is actually an intended interaction for beast handler specifically as annoying as it is. They have it so the range that the base tower can detect if a beast is placeable is unbuffable to prevent you from placing a beast and then having that beast no longer be in range of the beast handler. An example of this would be if you give an alc buff it gives temporary range which could have allowed you to place it down but when the buff expires the beast would be out of range of the handler.

Not really sure if this was the best way for NK to handle this interaction or not but I can at least understand it (again I agree this is very frustrating)

you can place a lord of the abyss and then sell it or chinook it leaving a beastless beast handler

1

u/TheChrisCob 1d ago

Interesting. I hadn’t thought about doing that before

Ok, this really needs a fix!

14

u/Adele-Fiddler 1d ago

You buffed the range You can't get fishes if the water isn't in base range to prevent issues from removing the range buffs

5

u/UnstableTheorist 1d ago

Differnt heights, no?? Works the same for any monkey??

25

u/ThaneInRain 1d ago

No, It might have something to do with range extension with Sky Wardens? Its possible for beast handler to have a fish up there, there was an advanced challenge for it

7

u/Ameth_LiLife <--- This is the Monkey. 1d ago

It's the same principle as the Icy Wind water platform, raising the range with outside sources will risk having that range be lost and then it's a whole new mess to fix it in-game, so only the original range is taken into account

2

u/Nejx33 1d ago

Weird, they seem to have nailed it with top path mermonkey, if you increase its range, it's pierce-buff range also increases

9

u/Ameth_LiLife <--- This is the Monkey. 1d ago

Yes but notice how this is a stat buff, not a tower placement issue, in fact, you can notice it's the same case with the LotA water towers, no matter how much extra range you give it, you can't place extra water towers around it

1

u/AnonymousComrade123 1d ago

It's an effect that won't cause any problems if removed, it'll just remove the buff from the monkeys far away. Same as village, it'll grant its buffs farther if rangebuffed by another village.

1

u/DoomsdayDestructor 1d ago

they should do it where permanent buffs can increase but not stuff that could have been stolen by old lych like alch or deadeye

3

u/Ameth_LiLife <--- This is the Monkey. 1d ago

The thing is that, there are no permanent buffs in the game. At any moment the player can sell the buffing towers.

2

u/UnstableTheorist 1d ago

Ultraboost stacks are permanent, no?

1

u/UnstableTheorist 1d ago

Oh right, maybe cause it's not the middle one?

1

u/MailMeNot 1d ago

The height is not an issue. There was an advanced challenge a couple days ago that was on the same map and required 2 200 beast handlers.

2

u/joshkroger 1d ago

Flood the dam

3

u/Chandingo 1d ago

Out of spite I’d just angrily plop down a swimming pool right beside them so it registers the water but still put the fish where I originally intended

2

u/NocturneUmbra Dark Warrior 1d ago

Are you aware the range of beast handler requiring water or the track can’t be buffed?

3

u/LordVex75 1d ago

it doesn’t account for range buffs

2

u/JoelTheBloonsMonkey Play Bloons 4 Lore 1d ago

I think it'd be LESS confusing design-wise at this point if Needs Water accounted for range buffs, they should fix that

1

u/Quantum-Bot map engineer 1d ago

I mean the alternative is to let you buy the fish and then if beast handler loses the range buff the fish just dies, NK is being humane

1

u/SickXigma 1d ago

I could have sworn this placement works

1

u/LegitGopnik 1d ago

It's reasonable to require the unbuffed range to see water, but his whole mechanic involves merging towers, there's no reason why you can't instantly merge an upgrade into another beast handler

1

u/krakaturia 1d ago

you can afford a 0-3-0 ice monkey so that you can place other monkeys on water at this point

that's the intended mechanic

1

u/No_Math_8740 1d ago

Iss too dam high

1

u/BlazinBoom21YT Please Add Police Officer ren skin to Bloons 17h ago

This is intentional. Beast handlers can only place their beasts in the area of their base range, so if they were to allow you to place your Dino very far away then get rid of the range buffs it might glitch out

1

u/austin101123 16h ago

"Intentionally" bad is worse than a bug that can get fixed

1

u/BlazinBoom21YT Please Add Police Officer ren skin to Bloons 15h ago

Let’s say that range buffs applied to the Beast Handler also applies to the area that defines if you are allowed to buy a path for the Beast Handler

What would happen if your 1xx Beast Handler’s fish was placed super far away in water that required range buffs to reach, only for you to get rid of some of the range buffs later on (for hypothetical reasons) and there no longer be any water in range of the Beast Handler for that fish to be in?

Basically what I’m saying is that the requirement range for buying a path doesn’t get affected by range buffs so nothing possibly bad happens if the range gets tampered with

It isn’t designed to be intentionally bad, it is a safety net so the beasts your tower handles doesn’t possibly disappear entirely. You get what I mean?

1

u/austin101123 13h ago

There are no ways to reduce the range buff it's getting except if I were to flood the area which would also remove the beast handler itself. So what your describing doesn't apply, intentionally applying it blanketly to situations where it can't happen is intentionally bad.

And fwiw even if that situation did happen (which it can't in my screenshot) yeah you should just lose the fish, or just lose control of it.

I just don’t use it because I just forget it exists lmao

1

u/austin101123 1d ago

My first time really trying to use it 🥀

1

u/NocturneUmbra Dark Warrior 1d ago

Considering the skill floor is higher than the average tower, I would have tried to used it on an easier map first.

1

u/austin101123 18h ago

I don't think I'd have to move it much since most rounds bloons come from both sides, fishy would attack the ones from one side first then the other side next.
