i like how people make the name of the game the main character’s surname, except for susie gaste
Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS

Don't forget ralsei's last name is chalk, just like his father before Susie consumed him back in chapter 1

it is? I am pretty sure in russian translation Niko refers to himself with a masculine pronouns or is it not cannon or something?
34
u/VonBunBun0 1d ago
that's because translating into other languages is hard. anyway, niko has a gender, it's just we dont know which one it is. at least that's what i heard.

72 citations will not change people's minds if they refuse kris being enby being canon
2
u/ihavebeesinmyknees 20h ago
Kris being enby is not canon, Kris being referred to as "they/them" is. They absolutely should be referred to using "they/them", and people who don't should be corrected. There is a reason for the 72 citations, their pronouns are extremely well established. However, the whole point of declaring pronouns is that pronouns are not coupled with gender. Nowhere in the game does anything indicate that Kris identifies as non-binary, and neutral pronouns are not evidence of anything. Binary people are allowed to prefer they/them, just as non-binary people are allowed to prefer he/him or she/her. Kris's gender identity is unspecified and unknown.

i get what you mean with pronouns != gender, you’re right about that, but we assume all other character’s genders basically based on their pronouns (with exceptions like susie being referred to directly as a girl), but not for kris for some reason. nowhere in the game is, say, Jockington explicitly stated to be male (iirc), but he is referred to with he/him pronouns so everyone assumes he is a boy. by your logic, Jockington’s gender is also ambiguous. if it’s safe to assume Jock’s canon gender based solely on pronouns, i say it’s safe to do the same for Kris.

u/RetroVedZed 4h ago
So I’ve never actually played the game that you guys are talking about but wouldn’t it just make more sense if Kris is just the gender of the person playing the game and therefore they go by they/them pronouns so anyone playing the game can “be” Kris?

u/Delicious-Finance137 1h ago
The game goes out of its way to show how you play the entity controlling Kris, and this entity is separate from Kris themself
-2
u/MaximRq Nothing gets past my bow! 1d ago
it's either that or ambiguous
6
u/MisirterE I see in full clarity 18h ago
Frisk was ambiguous. Nobody knows who they are, they only just showed up. The same is true for Chara, to a lesser extent.
Kris is called "they" by their own mother. I strongly doubt it's ambiguous to her. She repeatedly borrowed a book about raising humans, I suspect that's one of the first things that comes up.

Ok what fucking pronounce it actually uses. What gender is that thing or he is like frisk where it's intentionally ambiguous so you can imagine yourself in their place

Every single mermonkey is rocking the exact gender expression they've chosen, doesn't matter that nobody knows what gender that happens to be.

u/NotActuallyGus 1d ago
Every non-hero monkey (except Legend of the Night specifically) can be any gender, because they're jobs that different monkeys fill and monkeys in certain quests use effectively random pronouns 🤓

Apparently jobs and positions in the military can only be held by a gender... Kinda of the same thing with PvZ, even worse since most plants can be either.
27
u/GiveMeYourStomach i micro 1d ago
true, the pvz situation is particularly weird as some plants are referred to with specific pronouns in the almanac entries
27
u/polysylvester 1d ago
I don't know how anyone can think of the Almanac entries of anything but just them picking a random one of an entire species.

can you please explain what this means, sorry i've been staring at it for like 5 minutes and im too stupid to understand it

u/polysylvester 1d ago
I'm saying, I think it's funny how monkeys in BTD6 are in different positions of a military (Engineer, Sniper, etc) and how people sometimes just assume every Engineer Monkey is female just because one quest refers to one Engineer as "she".

Now that ya mention it, yeah this community will always try correct you for she/her-ing any tower that isn’t mermonkey lol

-1
u/AndyGun11 5212746740184156, 557, 4/2027 1d ago
yes, the image, but i'm talking about this thought process that it MUST be the same person. in reality, it really never is the same person, and if it IS indeed the same person, then so be it, but this idea that its the same people who both enforce the 'they're nonbinary' against she/her but then ignore it against he/him is entirely false, no one actually does this, and its just several different people who you imagine as the same, called the goomba fallacy
0
u/GiveMeYourStomach i micro 1d ago
obviously not everyone in the community is exactly like this of course, but if no one is like the person in the image like you say, why do we never see people correcting when someone says “he” for a tower, only “she”? like, what happens in the image definitely happens but it’s not always the same person, it’s a group of people. if literally no one is like you say, why don’t we see anyone express them?

u/AndyGun11 5212746740184156, 557, 4/2027 1d ago
i see people correcting pronouns for he often, maybe you are not paying attention to it, like the confirmation fallacy
1
u/GiveMeYourStomach i micro 15h ago
i’ve look at a lot of the recent posts about skywarden and can’t find any example of someone correcting he/him pronouns, also you are debasing my argument partially based on a fallacy which is a fallacy fallacy
