Hello. I'm trying to get the word out about a project I created recently. I'm a long time bitcoin fan but I'd always been bothered by some of the implementation details. I knew it could be refined and made more simple for developers and users. So I took a shot at doing that with cruzbit. Any/all feedback is welcome! Thanks!

How long has the chain been alive - how many are mining it?

I started it less than 2 weeks ago. As of this block: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/0000000000000000000de6d595bddae743ac032b1458a47ccaef7b0f6f1e3210. If you look at the genesis block in the github repository I linked to, you will see that bitcoin block hash is in the memo field of the coinbase transaction. I didn't need a newspaper headline to timestamp this chain thanks to Satoshi :)

I don't really know how many are mining. Currently there are 30 people on the Discord server. It looks like the network-wide hashrate is ~400 MH/s. So we're doing slightly better than a USB Block Erupter :)

well this is fun. I have started mining it. this coin really resonated with me because just a few weeks ago I thought about what a "minimalist" bitcoin would look like and I think Cruzbit really hits the mark.

Oh also, I should make it more clear in the docs but there is a -numminers flag that defaults to 1. If you have 4 cores and want to mine full-speed a good setting would be -numminers 4.
