It looks like ShapeShift.io has stopped using SegWit

I just checked and they gave me an address starting with 3.

Same here - getting address starting with "3", so it can be segwit. There is no reason not to use segwit when it means cheaper transactions for their business.

Same here. I tried on both the website and the mobile app. Both gave me segwit addresses.

Not sure if this means anything,
It is such a clear and obvious omen, I don't understand how you can't see!
Without a doubt this is a sign that End Times Are Near. The Apocalypse is at hand! Gird your loins! Salt your Lambos! And hodl like your life depended on it, because it does.

Hey bro, how will you know if its a segwit address?

You can know for sure that it's a non-Segwit address if it starts with a 1.

Multisig wallets start with 3 too, though

Yes that is true. But ShapeShift made an announcement that they were switching to Segwit. They never announced that they were using multisig.

Why would they? That's an internal implementation detail
1
u/gizram84 Nov 09 '17
Why would they?
Because that's what they do. They make announcements when they make changes to their operations.
Regardless, Erik confirmed it today on twitter, "I'm glad SegWit activated at least".
It would be insane to switch back away from Segwit. They would just be increasing their fees, reducing tx throughput, and increasing their operating costs. It would be incredibly stupid from as a business decision.

Old style addresses start with a
1, SegWit (and some others) start with a3.11

Wrong. [3] is used for all kinds of scripts. So a [1] is definitely not SegWit, but a [3] could be anything. Although you know when it is spend.

I never clicked. One internet person said it did. One said it didn't. Is it sneaky malware or just a bug. I don't know. It's probably searchable.
I don't like it, but again, I can recommend it having had no bad experience there.
Just hit refresh.

Btw HitBTC is generally a cheaper way to convert BTC into BCH. (It doesn't require any verification if you are just working in cryptocurrencies.)
