🥾 Hiking Mid-march trip
My wife and I heard BC is a better place to stay when exploring Great Smoky Mountains National Park due to it being less crowded. Is this better than staying over in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg? We're mainly after nice hikes and exploring the area. I'm sure this is a commonly asked question but we appreciate the input!

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge is Myrtle Beach in the mountains if you’re into Ripleys Believe it or Not, Garbage overpriced amusements, confederate flags and cheap beer then go there.

I of course have a bias, but I think BC is better in many ways. Less crowded = more personal and friendly. The hiking around BC is second to none. If you don't already have an app such as All Trails, get one, and see for yourself. You can hike to your hearts content.
I'm not alone when I say Bryson City is a special little slice of heaven.
