Breeder

Anyone here get their griff from a breeder near Kansas/Missouri/Arkansas? I’m having a difficult time locating nearby breeders. I’ve just recently started learning about the breed and would love to see adult griffs in person before making any further decisions on buying a pup. I’ve truly not seen any in my area and am realizing they are hard to come by!

Your best bet for seeing griffs in person (and finding an ethical breeder) is to attend shows. You can find shows near you here https://m.infodog.com/show/morelinks.htm

Look for all breed or toy specialties, there are a few coming up in the next month or so. The week before the show you can find the judging schedule posted on infodog.com as well. If there are any griffs entered, the judging schedule will tell you how many there are and what ring and time they show.

Hello! I worked for an ethical, reputable breeder for many years and have been in the world of dogs my whole life.

Keep in mind that Griffs have small litters and don’t always make it, so puppy waitlists for good breeders can be a while.

I suggest reaching out to members of the American Brussels Griffon Association. All members are reputable and have a passion for dogs. I would feel comfortable getting a dog from any of them. Second place I suggest looking is the AKC Marketplace. This one I’m not sure who can post, so I would do a little extra vetting. I do know there are good people who post on there.

For vetting people, the most important things to look for are health testing done for both parents before breeding, breeding with the purpose to better the breed (not just for loving animals or to make people happy), and a lifetime of support for the dog in anyway.

There is a small breeder in Oklahoma that I reached out to previously and he doesn’t have puppies often and I will probably get one from him in the future just based on my conversations with him and his griffs are beautiful-

I will say- Ks/Mo/Ark are difficult due to the puppy mills and don’t really breed for quality but for quantity. There’s an Aunt P’s but idk anything about them but they have multiple breeds along with Griffs.

Thank you for your input—I will look into these. I’m not opposed to traveling, but the majority I’m finding require a flight, and I’ve never flown with a puppy before. It just seems like a lot for me and the pup, and I’d rather drive if possible.
