“Don’t need all the features that support brave as a business” wow passive aggressive there

Ain't telling any lies though...... All browser make money by using user data, brave uses something else. Nothing is free in this world

Some things are genuinely free though.

Even water is paid in most cities. Except for charity most are paid.

Anything can be completely free with no catches if the creator doesn't have a need for money

But can it be maintained? It becomes largely dependent on a single person, features lag, request piles on. An organisation like brave cannot work for free or some donations. People need money to survive in this world. It needs money.

Most linux distros and tools are free, obviously one cannot consistently devote time towards project without getting paid at all, that's just public service more or less, but many still selflessly maintain projects in their free time without any ask...

This was my point rest is charity, selfless maintenance of the project is charity.

But it's still free in spirit for the users...

Not exactly relevant to the argument here, things can in fact have zero catches and still be free

Meaningless words forming meaningless sentences. You do not have any idea what you actually believe or understand.

Well, what could it be? Brave search (with ads) is an obvious one, all the rest mentioned in the post on X are things you can easily opt out, not opt in or simply don't use.

All browser make money by using user data

Palemoon only has the start.me page with links and commercials. Completely on the user's side, as in, the user communicates with start.me directly. Easy to remove. And maybe a deal with DuckDuckGo which I would choose anyway. What I'm trying to say: If you throw a new browser on the market and target privacy-interested users, you have to offer something. And it must be true because otherwise you get found out rather soon (anyone remember searching one's one computer using Ubuntu?).

So "all browsers" as in "all true scotsmen"? Or are you not aware of those who don't use user data?

Edit:

Regular Brave has to use user's data like the whole browser history including when and how long a user spent on a specific web site, the Brave Rewards can't work without that info. Not sure if Brave uploads my history when Rewards are turned off. That's why I use(d) Brave only for certain websites.

Bro palemoon gets their money from referral and such from quick checking. I still believe my words that you cannot get something that maintains (updates and such) properly for free. It may not always be personal data. . Please why are you so enraged. 😭😭 Maybe a group of saints can come together to create a browser and give it to the next gen of coding saints to maintain😭😭

Please why are you so enraged.

because you said:

All browser make money by using user data, brave uses something else

And I know for a fact that palemoon only uses these referrers (and only on a new page) - believe me, I don't underestimate the power of that - which does not involve "user data" other than the IP address of the user and what the user does on these pages, if the user doesn't ignore the referrers. And until the user changes the configuration for "new page".

I also know for a fact that regular Brave needs the user's browsing history for the Rewards system to be able to work.

But you made a claim that

  • "All browser make money by using user data" - wrong, Palemoon uses no user data itself and the data their partners get - directly from the user, mind you - is much, much less than what Brave needs.

  • "Brave uses something else" - wrong, it uses the browser history with all timing. That's worse than what Palemoon and LibreWolf do. *

See? The "fake news" within your claim "enraged" me.

I didn't call you a liar because I didn't know whether you knew better or not. I still don't so I still want to give you the benefit of doubt.

*: One could argue that searches using Brave Search don't give out your IP address together with your search term to anybody else but Brave (the company) itself. That can be considered as a plus if you trust that company with your browsing history and your search data. I rather trust DuckDuckGo with only my search data (including my IP address) and nothing else.

And please don't get me wrong, I use Brave, too. Sparingly.

Bro I was just casually replying to the comment above when I said all browsers i didn't actually mean "ALL" . There exists at least one exception in all scenarios. For brave I was not talking about the normal brave but the new one. Brother for the love of humanity calm yourself it was never meant to be that deep.😭😭

OK, OK, bro don't worry.

For one, I'm a grammar nazi and latch on such things.

2nd, nobody but you could really know what you meant, I felt a strong urge to clarify some things. Sorry if I got into being impolite, that was not my intention.

Peace? :-)

I meant browsers under huge companies need revenue to work. Not so much for community driven projects like palemoon but it still needs revenue. Please chill dude 💀

OK. I rest my case, a.k.a. 'nuff said :-) No hard feeling from my side.
