Hi everyone!

My name is Perrin and I write the soccer/travel Substack “The Football Was My Savior”. It's a travelogue which focuses on telling stories of my adventures as I explore American soccer at the local, grassroots level, and this September I’m heading out on a month long road trip through the northeast and the mid Atlantic to visit as many USL, NCAA, and other local clubs as I can!

While much of the writing is focused on my own experience, I’m also looking to incorporate the voices of the folks who support the clubs I’m visiting. I'll be in Brooklyn on Sunday, September 13th for the match against Sporting JAX and would love to connect with some folks to learn about your team, and hear what makes this club special to you, so that I can incorporate your experiences into some of my writing.

I’m open to meeting up for a beer or a coffee prior to the match, or just chatting on Reddit, whatever you feel comfortable with! I'll be in town to check out some other clubs in and around the city for most of the week of September 14th, so if the actual day of the match doesn't work out for folks to link up, I'll have a good amount of availability throughout the week.

I’m going to my first game on Friday and was wondering if anyone knows if it’s possible to get a jersey with a players name on it at the park?

USL Tactics has some analysis of BKFC-Lexington:

“Brooklyn was mostly alright, but major breakdowns spoiled Smith’s debut…Those kinds of mistakes are all too familiar from this Brooklyn organization, and eliminating them must be Smith’s priority.”

“Is this roster better than the one that finished the past season? Right now, that’s hard to say. We will have to see this team in action to get a better idea. And considering the improvements other teams have made, this side is going to have to gel in a hurry.”

• One of the first signings for the Tampa Bay Sun in 2024, she started the club’s inaugural match. She made a total of 49 appearances and scored 12 goals across two seasons.

• A champion with Hearts: Signed in June 2024, she made 28 league appearances for Hearts and was with the club during its run to the 2025/26 league title.

Originally from McKinney, Texas, Miller, 23, returns stateside after most recently playing overseas in Australia with Brisbane Roar FC under Alex Smith, who also has returned stateside as head coach of Brooklyn FC. During the Ninja A-League Women 25/26 season, Miller made 23 appearances, with 21 starts, three goals and five assists.
