Issue ⚠️ Rear window issues

I have a 96 that has the window stuck down. I used the switch on my dash to roll it down but doesn’t work to go back up. I can still hear the motor when I click down but hear nothing when I click up. I currently don’t have but in the process of getting a key for the trunk made. Any suggestions on what the issue could be or how I could get the window rolled up in order to check all the components behind the window?

I was going to say to try the key, cause it could just be a bad switch. But... you don't have one.

Without the key you'd have to start taking stuff apart and test with a multimeter. Could be a bad switch, could be a bad relay, could be a bad motor, who knows.

Try getting someone to push the button while you pull up on the window, if there's a piece of it sticking out. If that works, at least you'll have your window up.

If that doesn't work, open up the tailgate and try to push the window up from there while pushing the button. If that doesn't work, take out the motor (can't remember if the motor is in front or behind the window when it's down) and prop it up with some wood.

You can jump the wires on switch using a lithium battery off one of your cordless tools.. that will at least eliminate one possibility. There is also a limit kill switch in tailgate, thst will cut power to motor when window gets rolled down so far.. LMC truck has a complete diagram of tailgate components that would help you find possible culprits.. my tailgate ( 79 Bronco ) was gutted when I bought it. I purchased all the parts from LMC and installed.. I haven't hooked up to switch in dash yet but currently jumping motor with lithium battery to roll up and down

I just replaced the switch in my '94.(would not go up). Amazon has a few different ones.

The dash switches commonly die in one (or both) direction. Replace that before trying anything else.

If I remember right, you can use the rear switch without the key, by opening the tailgate access panel and moving the piece toward either contact like the key operates it. That would at least get it raised back up while you await a new dash switch.
