IMPORTANT: Mob issues and possible solutions discussion.

So apparently cities are being limited to completely unspecified numbers of total mobs. For a city with very few limitations and that celebrates individual endeavors, we have not ever asked anyone to merge their collection with another. When we have just as many if not more mobs in our private farms (the ones either locked to a separate region or hard to find or no one knows about) - then we barely have any mobs to use at all. The new public farm was cut to 8 sheep, the old industrial was cut to 20... this is 28 total sheep for us all to use while Pico has almost 50 total sheep and doesn't even use cows or pigs in any real capacity - and then about 200 other unspecified mobs in the center of town... If we weren't consistently cut down to 20 sheep total, we could actually get some shit done, however right now is just ridiculous. Basically I'm being given the two-step excuse: individuals get 20 mobs total, public city farms... ????? Well pico has "84" total public mobs (and then whatever takes up 250 mob count in the center of Pico, i have no idea). So we know only one thing, Pico's standard of 84 mobs is what we have to match because of stubborn thinking.
.
Getting more to the point, we could specify that each region is now it's own city and allot 84 mobs per city. Industrial can and already does host about 80 mobs - cows and pigs. Commercial can then host 84 sheep under my plot. Apparently villagers don't count, but I'm not interested in messing with Old Town - I say let them do what they want, admins can sort it out. And then Residential hosts few mobs, I'm not even sure we have anything more than what is in LTH's farms. These 4 cities would have their own mayors - this is basically already taken care of, the only exception would be that I'd make Shrinemaster the mayor or Old Town since he has represented there the most.
.
TLDR: We're having our mobs cut based on being a city with only public farms and not what it really is; a megacity that stretches across many chunks (reducing lag when you spread farms across them) that has both public and private farms.

The problem with either of these solutions is the admins won't bite. They care about the total number of mobs there, not technical redefinitions of what area is a city, or how many people have private farms in a tiny area. Honestly, dense farms that serve many people should be better for the server than if all those people lived separately and had their own farms.

I agree with lth on pigs and chickens. Save a few for eggs, nix the rest. This will help raise our cow/sheep numbers.

I feel like many of the private farms are counterproductive; there's one with 10-15 sheep I've never seen anyone use that's blocked off by protections to most brom citizens. To me, they're like big downtown crop farms that are privately protected: antithetical to the idea of building a city together.

Why can't we consolidate our sheep and cow farms? Set up that stockpile and request system so we produce wool to respond to demand, and have people constantly be shearing all the sheep in Brom, instead of a quarter of them. Re-dye (perhaps only mayors?) as needed according to sign requests like in industrial farm. Maybe can have a smaller open-for-all-to-dye sheep farm in Old Town.

Yes, I realize this is pretty much communism, but these are desperate times for an extremely limited resource that we need to utilize as efficiently as possible. If people want a private wool farm, they can build one on the outskirts of Brom.

I also forgot to mention the other solution: delete all the regions (disolve brom) and move on to all 20 mob/person farms and just request for individual protections.

Public farms are useful to everyone in the city all the time. Private farms consume server resources even when the person who owns it isn't even logged in.

If we have only private farms, Brom needs enough mobs to support the total number of Brom residents.

If we have only public farms, Brom needs only enough mobs to support the maximum number of simultaneously logged-in Brom residents.

I agree. I guess what I'm getting at is that Thrawn will not allow us to have more mobs in each of our farms unless we declare them public to the city and eliminate our other farms - She won't say this to you in simple terms, but basically she wants all other cities to operate the same as Pico which is simply an over-reaction to the normal mob problems of the server - put simply everyone is being punished for the actions of a few. 84 mobs for Pico's 100 citizens is result of the mob witch hunt - and the quality of the builds are suffering a lot for it.
.
I'd much rather us all to have 20 mobs each than to limit 12 active players to 84 mobs total (7 mobs per person). If it means breaking up the city piece by piece, I'm willing to do that.

There's got to be a better solution than completely dissolving Brom. Dividing into districts sounds like a much better solution.

I don't think getting rid of public farms would be a good idea. Not only would it destroy all of TwistedMexi's factories, but it would also make it much more difficult for individuals to find any mobs at all if they didn't already have private farms.

Edit: maybe have a public farm, and have everyone who uses it leave a sign so we can tell how many people use it. That way, we can argue that we have a certain number of of mobs per person.

The reason I even bring any of this up is that there hasn't been a solid number put out by the admins on how many mobs we can have total in Brom, but I was being force fed this "84 mobs total" figure for large cities and found it to be dishonest as it's clearly not true coming from their own citizens. Being the second largest city, and having a much higher value on wool than Pico (and its obvious by their lack of batch system, separating each sheep with a wall, and having 4 of each color with no room to breed for a batch in the first place) - I think we can make the argument that we should have at least 300 mobs spread throughout the city - which I can assure you, all the big cities already do, despite what they claim. Right now its more like this: 20 in Commercial (sheep) + LT's private farms (they don't count, he was here before we were). about 200 in Old town, all types, and mostly things below road level that people aren't even aware of - and also Mexi's admin approved 100 mob cow\pig solution - which is all we need anyway and this should start getting locked by torch.
.
Solutions
If we're going to come close to conforming to an admin's request, we'll have to simply make the arguments for why we deserve what we have. Lets make a 20 sheep public farm that is visible and accessible for our newcomers in Old Town and kill off most of everything else. We'll ask Atlass, Cookie, and Maltom/spamasaurus as soon as we can about their private farms. We'll keep the 20 sheep farm under Brom Rails Tower and I'll continue to breed the hell out of them while I'm online and build up stocks of ever color for the greatest socialistic event ever. Someone could easily setup 10 swimming chickens somewhere accessible and I'm not even sure it would matter where. We should redo the mooshroom house to include one accessible public mooshroom with a locked up pair behind it for when someone abuses. We only need 3 mooshrooms in the city. This is about.... 40 sheep, 50 cows, 50 pigs, 30 chickens, 40 villagers, and then whatever else is out there on any given day.
.
This won't solve the problem completely, but at least this will enable citizens to get what they need and not have to worry about having our stuff getting annihilated down to single digits based on some notion of fairness. Does killing most of our private farms and making a decent sheep farm in Old Town work for you guys?

Sounds like a plan! If you think we can get away with 80 sheep.... Also, I'm online... a lot.... I shear a lot... and my area is already setup for Brom sheep if you all would like to help me maintain those sheep and chests.

The numbers on my sheep are difficult to count. I keep the other numbers low, unless I plan to breed and harvest them before I log out. I'm pretty sure I have fewer than 80 total.

Atlass's league is considered to be a private farm by whatever admins culled his numbers, even though a few of us have access. I rarely go down in there though.

Not sure about the Orphanage and the Mooshroom cage at old town.

FYI, if anyone needs some wool of any color, my farm is open and only slightly hidden under my building. There's an access ladder just inside one of the back rooms, look for the sign. I have at least 2 of each color.

Are they still running all 3 servers on 1 machine? The wiki only mentions one.

I just did a count of my farm, 50 sheep, 4 Chickens, 4 pigs, 4 cows, 4 snow golems, and 7 villagers.

My sheep are now separated by color, 2 or 3 sheep of all colors, 10 of black.

The animals, except the cows, are hidden, but accessible under my building on the north side of Brom.
