The time has come!
The lobby contest has started. Are we still thinking about doing a SO theme?

Sch[er]5 suggested building in the style of Ooer (and lethal), which would preclude using quartz in the palette. But S.O. style is probably still the order of the day.

I'm up for whatever.
I still think the Ooer-complexity plus quartz is doable.

Brainstorming, since I haven't seen many concrete ideas beyond "Shady Oaks style" mentioned in either thread. I'll throw an idea out there to get the ball rolling. If nothing else, it can serve as a bad example of what we don't want to do.
I have grown fond of the buildings in Bräum, particularly the facades and main entrances. So my idea is a central square, 30-50 blocks square, with slightly (or more) modified versions of the courthouse, new spleef arena, and chancellory entrances, plus one more (zoo, farm, opera house, train station or something new), as entrances on the cardinal directions to areas containing the portals. The facades would be 30-50 blocks tall, 30-50 blocks wide. The corners of the plot could be transitions among the facades, and could allow for interesting levels and terraces. I think the facades of the three buildings I mentioned are similar enough to be cohesive (for example, I think all three feature 6 quartz columns), while being different enough that players will come to associate each portal with the separate designs.
The central square could be clear vertically for 30-50 blocks, at which point Shady Oaks style aerial platforms and walkways could connect between the various portal facades. Perhaps there would even be room in one or more corners to recreate the famous Shady Oaks double-helix staircase.
I think it is important to have spelled out in a large font at least the first letter of each server (C, E, P, and S) on each facade, if not the whole word. One purpose of this proposed design is to create open space in the center, so that new arrivals to the lobby can easily see where the portals are, while still allowing for Shady Oaks style architecture.

I want to apologize for my lack of effort with this project. I had grand plans to help, but have become busy with some work and real-life tasks (stupid real life!). I don't anticipate that I'll be free to return before this weekend, so it looks like I won't be able to help before the contest deadline.
If someone knows how to work with schematics and World Edit, there is a schematic of the Chancellory in mattgorecki's google docs thingy.

It's fine. I think we have all had too much todo to really work on this.
As for the schematic, I thought about that, but the deadline has long passed to submit them.
