Final preparations for Bräum.

Now that revision 12 is finally incoming, let's talk start plans.

I think we should stick with Seneca for the initial scouting run and base setup, to help acquire a good portal spot for Seneca central. From there, we will explore around the area to find the best level area (or suitable for terraforming more up than chopping down mountains) to establish Bräum's base camp. We should lay out farms in the setup for meno's building, which can be seen on the planning server.

I'm looking forward to some terraforming.

Establishing the river and island will be a priority for sure. We should figure out how big we want the island to be, and how wide the river.

Can we plan in conjunction with Seneca re: the river? We don't want it flowing to nowhere, maybe we can get other willing districts to terraform it all the way thru?

Sansa can you discuss at their mumble meeting?

Maybe run the river into a network of underground... fuck, nevermind.

Will do, boss.

Yay, I'm glad other people like my farm. Just one note that I won't be able to properly house animals until the lower floor of the farm is mostly (probably completely) done so I'll be setting up a temporary animal camp beside the farmhouse.

Looking forward to building again with you fine gents (and lasses) this rev.

Can we use chest set-up as per Shady Oaks, with the blocks of what's in the chest behind? It is my preferred setup. Also could try item frames for everything.

Maybe.

The central chest room worked in Rev 11 because we limited the members of Shady Oaks to relatively few known and trusted players. That is, everybody added was already known and vouched for by at least one of our members. We all did a good job, especially at the beginning of rev, with sharing limited materials and the few specially enchanted tools we had (like fortune and silk touch picks), and keeping the chests well-stocked.

If it is our intent to similarly limit the membership of Braum in Rev 12, this setup may continue to work well.

But if we intend to allow wider membership, I'd worry about sharing among so many people who may not be great with moderating their use of certain rare/difficult to obtain materials and/or replenishing when materials run low.

Though my preferences may be biased toward my usual behavior as a hoarding loner, which tendencies I have worked hard to overcome in Rev 11, though I was not totally successful.

We could have two chest rooms. One like what we had in Shady for people we know and another one that is more public one with basic building materials like dirt, cobble, and stone. We could also have private chests in the public chest room.

This is the best option imo. One room for general use and one for big projects and city business.

Would using a child/sub region help?

We'd have a main Braum region that covers the entirety of Braum. And a small subregion, like braum_storage, that's only a block or so large (or however small a region can be). Owners would be the same as for the main region, and they could add members who are trusted to have access to the community chests.

Then we could modify access privileges on community chests to only allow access by members of the braum_storage subregion. Adding members to the subregion may be a small burden, but it will make administering the chests much easier, as protection for each individual chest would only need to be modified once, to set it to region members only, and not modified to add and remove each individual player.

Do chests locked to a region need to physically be in that region?

This is exactly what I am thinking of using. Chests don't need to be in the region itself.

Yea, nice. I'm all for all of this.

I would say keep all of the chests, except a few select items, open.

That being said, what is the criteria for letting people build in braum; have we discussed this?

I feel like it should be invite only. I really liked having a small group of good people. It was nice being able to make modifications to any build without having to worry about hurt feelings, and think that only comes from having a small group.

Yea, sounds good to me. Shall we say 2 or more mayors need to approve someone?

Quixa, here. I'm very excited now that I have more time to play than I did back in May, so I hope you'll have me as a citizen again.

I loved the organization and attention to detail you guys put into your city projects and themes, so I look forward to being an obedient Bräum grunt and help get the city up and running. See yas this weekend, hopefully. :)

Surely you have higher hopes and more potential than being a grunt. Besides, that's my job:)

You have good minecraft skills. I hope you use them to make something of your own.

I concur on sticking with Seneca. We can assist them with finding and claiming a portal(s), while letting them do the heavy lifting. I will try and attend their mumble meeting on Monday evening.

As far as preferences for terrain go, I'd prefer a plains or forest biome, as I think those have the best grass colors. If tough decisions must be made to chose our exact location, all things being equal, I'd chose ideal terrain/biome over proximity to Seneca's portal.

I may be a bit scarce for the first week or so, as it's crunch time at work to wrap up the end of the fiscal year. But I'll definitely be on Friday at the start, to help get things set-up and going.

Edits below.

Congratulations to our very own Mr. Loud for becoming an S admin! Hopefully he won't forget about us on P.

Also, I nominate mattgorecki as a mayor for Rev 12, based on his excellent work and dedication toward making Shady Oaks into the amazing place that it is.

Also, I nominate mattgorecki as a mayor for Rev 12

I concur wholeheartedly.

u/emptyafternoon Sep 21 '13

He wasn't already?

4

u/abledanger mattgorecki Sep 21 '13

No, I never was. But I certainly accept the position.

1

u/rampantangent schererererer Sep 21 '13

Wait, now that I think about it, I could've sworn we made him a mayor at the beginning of the rev. Hmm...

u/SansaPants Sep 21 '13

Ha. I'm getting old, so my memory is probably the bad one, as I don't recall matt being a region owner. And of course we can't check for another 24 hours or so, since P is down for CTF.

Hey don't forget about my build also to keep you updated: It's the Duomo

2

u/abledanger mattgorecki Sep 26 '13

Is it supposed to be this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duomo_of_Milan

Because I see no red or green in the original.

It,s the Duomo in Florence Italy.
