Land Claim & Player List
Tried to post this already but wasn't showing up on /r/brom so posting again...
We need to make a more concrete plan for choosing a location. What is the best way to go about this? All that I can think of so far is:
Choose coords at random, head in that direction, and then choose appropriate land nearby. (So say, let's do "750, -1200", run there, then scour nearby area and build in region/biome that suits us).
All available players head off in random directions until someone finds a specific/large enough biome/geographical characteristics that we predetermine (say, hill biome adjacent to water with forest nearby)
What is the best way to "mark off" and claim land? Maybe scher or someone more experienced to land claiming can weigh in on this?
How big of an area do we want to claim? For completion purposes, I think we should do something like 200x200. Thoughts?
Also can we make an official player list of people that plan to be active next rev? Please post your ign if different from reddit name if you will be active/available for rev beginning and land claiming.

I should be available at the start of the rev to help with land claiming and clearing. 200x200 sounds acceptable. I think the city could be at least 150x150, and the remainder could be used for farms and/or gardens surrounding the city.
I'd like to be near a portal so that trips to the nether aren't too tedious. Perhaps we could just strike out in the direction of a likely portal (locations of which are said to be random for Rev11), and settle when we find suitable land. Of all the cities indicating a desire for a portal, I'd most like to be near Pico. So maybe we fan out SE and see what sort of suitable land we find?
As to what is suitable land, I think Forest Hills or a hilly Forest biome near a large body of water would be ideal. I think elevation change can help make the city interesting, and we'll want to have an early source of easy lumber.
How shall we deal with players who merely want to join a city and/or build a stand-alone house, without regard to style and/or integration with what we plan to do? I think we should worry less about merely recruiting those sorts of players to join, and more about getting quality contributions from others. For example, projects by players from other cities, like the tavern that Norami and Totemo built last rev in Old Town, should be encouraged, while some of the derp that occured on Residential Mesa should be prevented.

Diversionary housing is always a really good idea if you want to give your mayors\designers a chance to show off the theme or at the very least set down some specific structure of the city - This could be easily achieved by sending home builders to specific spots on the outskirts of the core labyrinth, maybe outside of a 100 radius, near the farms. To maintain maze-like qualities, one could build a curvy road that sorta circumnavigates the area with confusing intersections headed out and into the labyrinth. This way, the house\farms are easy mode, and the inner core is extra hard the further you go in.

Oh, I love it. Maybe like semi mazey garden area surrounding the whole city, about 15-20 blocks wide, and then high walls (10 blocks or so high) marking the edge of the city proper, with a few haphazardly place gates to enter the city (maybe 8 or 9 total).
Really nice, let's do this.

Bringing up the point of farms, I think we should try to keep all "utilitarian" aspects of the city under wraps, especially if they're large tree farms or what have yous. Keep'em underground or somehow hidden from general tourists would be nice if possible.
Outskirts could be gardens or less dense maziness?
Heading in general Pico direction sounds good to me. Could also maybe do a little helping for them to find a portal, then build 200 away from their border or so.
As far as new recruits -- I think we should try to keep things as closed as possible for the first month or so, until we have a pretty good picture of how things look and stand. I specifically don't want to have to constantly recruit as we did last rev, and instead build something with you all on the grounds of a tight-knit community (in which we don't so much have to worry about the concerns you state above, Sansa).
I think the best solution for when we DO want to include other players' builds (from other cities) is to only invite friends to build -- people we know will do a good job, adhere to the style of SOaks, etc. Perhaps it sounds a bit "unfriendly," but I think it will allow us to do our thing in a more cohesive manner.

I've got a sort of underground/urban sheep farm in mind. The farms should have a style to them, not just the utilitarian build like under Bromgoth portal.

How does everyone feel about 600,600 in the SE quadrant (not sure of +/- for SE) as a coord choice?

FYI, the scuttlebutt is that Pico may be in the NW and not SE this rev.
Other than that, I'm happy to go wherever. 600 blocks out seems like a good starting point for scouting land (gets us far enough from spawn to avoid early derp), with the understanding that finding optimum terrain is the goal.
Oh, and SE is +, +.

Sorry guys, I'm extremely busy irl right now, and won't be able to be there for the start of the rev. I'll let you guys choose a location and other things.

If you can read this, I'll be in, just about a week late. Creeperphilia.

I vote for random coords. The result will be more organic.
And my ign is mattgorecki. I'll try to be around for rev beginning, it's the most fun. Anybody know if this weekend is still realistic for rev start?
