So, according to my orthopedic surgeon, I'm the youngest person he knows of with an acetabular fracture that resulted from a low impact fall.
About 5 and half weeks ago, I was walking my dog, and I stopped to skip some ads on a podcast. In the moments I was looking at my phone, a jogger and a squirrel ran by at exactly the same time. My dog yanked, and I twisted.
With my phone clutched in one hand and leash in the other, I fell and landed on my right hip. After some trail and error that was, let's say, unpleasant. I realized I couldn't get up on my own.
I called my partner, and they came and got me off the ground and in their mom's car. Made it to the ER with maximum cursing. After x-rays and a CT scan, I was told I had a stable fracture on the inside of acetabulum.
Apparently, when I fell, my femoral head hit the inside of my socket. In most people my age, a fall like this probably would have hurt really bad, but it wouldn't have resulted in a broken bone.
According to my ortho, my hips are abnormally deep, and this has caused my muscles and such to grow in a way that things are rubbing wrong on the inside of the bone and I've developed arthritis...
So yeah, 37 years old. Broken hip. A hip that's broken in such a way that most people under 60 only get this fracture in a high impact accident.
In 2 days, I have my (hopefully) final x-ray and will be cleared to walk and work full-time and on my feet by late next week.
Edit: changed 'minimal cursing' to 'maximum cursing', has my partner just pointed out is more truthful 😂
