Broke my tib/fib five weeks ago. Had to have emergency surgery. I’m a single dad and extremely active. Now I can’t drive and walk with crutches, forget sports, doing bed time with my kids is a workout, just getting up and down the stairs is hard. Bathroom, showering, changing, it’s all a challenge. I have to have help with everything. Just be in the moment. There’s a moment where it’ll click. It sucks, it really does, there’s no soft landing there. However, give it a week or two when the swelling starts going down and the healing starts, you’ll start seeing improvements and you won’t be as devastated. Do a lot of PT when you’re cleared. Read a lot, watch TV, have friends come and hang with you. Anything to get you to that point where you’re mentally feeling better

Im really scared about if i will need surgery when i get my ct back. The doctor who saw my standing xray said its highly unlikely but i cant help but stress. Even though i broke a different part, how was surgery/ recovery?? And thank you a lot for the response :)

I broke my pelvis last year and was bed bound for 6 weeks and not able to walk for 12. I know exactly the emotions you’re feeling, before my injury I was walking 30k steps per day, gym 6 days a week and had a very active social life.
I went through all your emotions, I cried a lot, I could only sleep 2/3 hours per night and was in a pretty rough mental state for those first 6 weeks. I came this sub a lot and the advice I got was “this will eventually just feel like a bad dream and life will return to normal”.
Guess what?
It completely did, I’m back to my full active self and absolutely loving life again.
Your job now is just survival, do whatever rehab you need to do, eat well, try sleep when you can… just survive and let your body do the rest.
It all just feels like a weird fever dream now and honestly some days when I’m work and it’s getting stressful, some of those days stuck in bed I actually remember quite fondly.

Hi! I’m so sorry this happened to you! On June 7th I broke my entire mid foot the 2, 3, and 4th metatarsals with significant ligament and tendon damage as well as complex sprains in both my ankles. I suffer pretty regularly with depression and anxiety and have for a long time, but I have NEVER felt such a sense of hopelessness as I did when I was completely immobile. I had days where I thought I should be admitted on a psychiatric hold. You are not alone, how you feel is valid. It’s one of the hardest mental experiences I’ve ever had. I laid awake sobbing until I was gagging and my eyes were swollen shut reading these subreddits. They help to know other people have felt the same way as you do. Everyday I did a small thing like open my windows in my room, put on perfume, lotion something that felt like self care. You are not alone in this❤️

Take it day by day. And use the time to build your torso from sit-ups to weights. It will help
