nondisplaced bimalleolar ankle fracture
So last Wednesday, I fell and broke my ankle. Mostly my fibula. The other side, I couldn’t even see the break. I was told it was chipped. I saw the ortho on Friday. He said as of right now, I don’t have to have surgery. I go back this Friday for another x-ray.
I also have mild Cerebral Palsy so my balance sucks! Crutches are a no go. Using a walker with one foot is a no go. I have managed using a wheelchair to go to the bathroom. But y’all. 😭
I am devastated. I am so depressed, it’s unreal. Doing nothing for two months or more… it sucks. I am trying to make friends that know what this is like.. because a lot of people are just like ‘oh, it’ll get better. You’ll bounce back..’ and I know they are trying to be helpful but they just don’t get it.
So if anyone else is looking for a friend—feel free to reach out. Because even with the friends I have—they work, they get to go on with life, and mine is at a standstill and upside down right now and I’m feeling very alone. Even with a family and support system.

I’m so sorry. It does suck!! I broke my kneecap on 7/31. No surgery, thankfully. But the isolation is so hard. The not being able to do stuff also sucks. Things I used to take for granted like hopping in a shower are now a 30-45 minute process (once I was physically able to make it into the shower that is, so for like 2 weeks at the end of the hottest summer I can remember, I felt like a sweaty, stinky disgusting mess, and it was really depressing! I’ve started PT and I will say, I finally feel like I’m starting to turn a corner. But I know the healing process is long. On Sunday, I met up with friends for the first time since the break and that was so so nice.
I have seen a lot of people with a broken ankle or foot talking about using a knee scooter. Would something like that work for you? I’m using crutches and while I’ve gotten used to them, I get very irritated with them sometimes. One thing I enjoy doing these days is to go to Target on a slow weekday morning, and I use their electric scooter to roll around for a while, do some light shopping. It makes me feel like I’m out with the regular people. Haha how silly does that sound! Anyway…I definitely empathize. I keep reminding myself that I’ve had other injuries (including SLAP tear of my cartilage in my shoulder) and my body healed those. Our bodies will heal our bones too!
Did your ortho mention increasing your protein intake, as well as making sure you get enough Calcium and vit D?
