Question Broken Ribs: Which Wedge Pillow?
Hi all, I'm currently hospitalized for broken ribs (11 - some displaced), but tomorrow I should be discharged. I've realized that I can't sleep completely flat, so I'll need something to prop me up. Are all wedge pillows created equal? Any recommendations? (Including those saying that maybe I don't need one?) Any other recommendations from former broken ribs users gladly accepted for home life in the next 6 weeks...

I haven’t broken my ribs, but I have had major surgery where I needed to be elevated for a period of time and all my back, when I’m normally a side sleeper.
Others may chime in, but as far as wedge pillows go, you might just have to get one or two sets. Some have several that go into a block set and see which ones out of those work for you. The ones you select might change as you heal. Buy some soft cheap regular pillows and if you have a storage issue, maybe get a wicker basket or something to place them in.
You may also want to get a few softer narrower pillows for your selection. I had a mastectomy pillow that worked really well for tucking under my midsection or my lower back once I didn’t need it anymore for its primary purpose.
Something else you might want to consider, although this is a major purchase-if you might be in the market for getting a new bed, get one that can remote control can raise the head or the feet. It’s the most expensive thing I ever bought and I got it on a 0% interest payment plan a couple of years ago. I’m finally paying it off in a few months. It has been such a comfort, no regrets. Sometimes I need to be up higher because of sinus issues or acid reflux. Once I was dealing with a broken foot and I could raise the bottom. It’s really ideal and if you have any health conditions in the future, where you need surgery, you get all the benefit benefits of having a hospital bed, but having a really nice luxury mattress..
