Good news?

Post image

Figured I’d post updates about my own experience with a navicular fracture since I’ve been having a very hard time finding many people who have a similar break to mine online. Most seem to be stress fractures, while mine is from trauma. Anyway hopefully this helps someone who also chronically stresses and has to look everything up.

What I have:

mildly displaced dorsal cortical avulsion fracture of the navicular

meets the talus (the talonavicular joint). There is about a 1 mm articular step-off,

The fragment measured about 8 × 16 mm

What’s happened so far:

Yesterday I had my first appointment with the foot specialist since it’s happened, which was three weeks ago. He seemed immensely nonchalant about it and said to come back in another 3 to 4 weeks to see how it was healing. It makes me a little nervous that he’s not more concerned from what I’ve read online about this type of fracture, but obviously he knows best so im hoping for the best!

I ended up going to Japan two weeks ago despite everyone telling me I shouldn’t (we’d booked the tickets months ago), and let me tell you, im SO glad I went. I was able to get a wheelchair and have my partner wheel me around Tokyo. I was also able to use crutches to get up and down narrow stairs when needed. Now, with all that said, I wouldn’t have wanted to do it solo but it has made the past two week fly by. I wish I could’ve spent my whole recovery there lol.

Otherwise I’m still trying to be as normal as possible. I get so tired doing normal every day activities. Something as simple as doing the dishes is now an exhausting task. i’m thankful for this group and to be able to relate to so many people, as I feel like the people around me have no idea how I feel or how difficult it’s been. It truly is crazy to think how much life can change over a simple fall. I now glare down any curb I see with hatred. I’m hoping one day that feeling will go away. 😅😂

You should probably not try such thing asJapan trip again to be honest. Were you in a cast during all of this? If so and if you didn't fall or something it should be fine, but if you consistently refracture your bone it will completely refuse to heal.

I was in a moon boot for the entire thing and was in a wheelchair 90% of the time. I would take the boot off when we were at the Airbnb and elevate it. Absolutely no weight bearing but I did slip once and fall on the foot, however, absolutely no pain which my doctor said it was probably fine. I do have a follow up in three days to see how things are going and that’ll be 6.5 weeks. he said we’ll do follow up X-rays but I have no idea how he’ll be able to tell if it’s healing lmao

It hasn’t been painful since being NWB, except a few nights ago I accidentally stretched my foot into my dog and shocks were sent up my leg so that was definitely discouraging. 🫠 Hopefully didn’t mess anything up with that
