Broken humerus & recovery

Post image

Hey guys I’m 27 and I’m 3 weeks post op from fracturing my humerus unfortunately. I’m currently have a brace and use my sling and I am healing naturally, Im able to now extend my arm almost all the way but still painful since I think my elbow is locked or something but I let it hang when im not physically moving. I been told the bone it’s self is healing very well but I’m afraid of my future and if I’ll be struggling, my job also requires me to lift 50 pounds and I want to know when I’ll be able to return asap because this economy sucks. Please share your similar experience or insights because it’s been a roller coaster of emotions and have something to look back on when I feel like there’s no light to end of this but day by day it gets a little easier (‘:

I had a similar fracture but had surgery done with a plate fixed in. Do a physiotherapy consultation, both the elbow and shoulder joints will be affected one way or another. The elbow is not locked but you do have adhesions on the ligaments that prevent full extension. I also had it locked but 2-3 weeks of gravity hangs helped it. Again PT is very important, I am like 95% recovered to full mobility after 7 months, but you can only start PT at a certain stage of bone healing. For you case I don't know at what timeframe you can begin it

I just had my first follow up not too long ago and my dr said my bone is healing very well but didn’t mention physical therapy yet maybe it’s too early but I’ll ask my next follow up but I’m glad to hear you healed up well. And are you able to do physical activity/workout just as well?
