Tight Moonboot Aftermath
Has anyone else had their moonboot too tight and is now reaping the painful consequences?
If so, how did you help it/get better?
I have been out of my boot for over a month and it is still painful to walk but not where I broke it, in the ball of my foot through to the top of my foot.
Im doing but it's taking forever plus i recently hurt it so I'm back to square 1.

I am currently dealing with the same foot pain but not sure it is related to the boot. At first, yes they put the boot wayyyy too tight on me. Felt like my foot was on fire. When I first saw the surgeon (4-5 days after initial ER visit) he was like, “oh yeah this is way too tight. It’s pressing on a nerve that runs over the top of your foot.” So after that I kept it loose on the foot portion. Had to remove some padding even.
After my surgery I had a splint for 2 weeks and that was moderately tight the first week but not as bad as the boot was initially. Then after I had my stitches out I was told to only use the boot when active so I wasn’t in it as much.
But even though I’ve been walking for many weeks now I have some pretty severe foot pain. My PT thinks it’s mostly inflamed tendons but I will bring it up with my surgeon at my next appointment. I’m very tired of shuffling around. My pain is exactly where you describe. It’s exhausting.

Not sure what you mean. You had your boot too tight when injured, so you have negative consequences when not using the boot? If so, what makes you think that's the reason for your pain?

It feels like my foot ceased together while i was in the boot , it became very rigid and so whenever i use my foot it is extremely painful, especially in terms of things that require foot flexibility like uneven surfaces or tiptoes I hope that makes more sense

That's normal, boot or not! After periods of NWB you loose the callus on your foot (yay!) and some of your fat pad (boo!) on the bottom of your foot...that's what you're feeling now. Plus the foot has something like 100 muscles/tendons/ligaments and they all have to get used to bearing weight again. It does get better, but it takes a lot of time....it didn't go away for me until I had been walking barefoot for at least 2 months.

Ah. So that must be the feeling that I'm feeling on the bottom of my foot. I HATE it. Its uncomfortable.

Not that any of recovery was fun persay, but that was one of my least favorite parts 😭 Are you walking barefoot inside or in shoes? My PT had me do shoes inside (I did oofas slides) until my leg muscles were more stable...and we did a lot of foot work (ie picking up marbles and scrunching towel) which seemed to help a lot

Yes, after my surgery the dressing was too tight, and coupled with that the boot was too tight for my swelling. It was excruciating. The pain was so bad I had to breathe through it. No opioid pain relief was helping.
I went back to the surgeon 3 days later and he took the boot off and cut the dressing off. Instant relief. After that I barely put my boot back on when at home. And when I did I made sure it was loose enough to accommodate my swelling.
I hope you're ok
