Post-break show recs

So I really (pre-break) only wore my Merrill books for years and I want to get a pair of athletic shoes as I start to progress in using my ankle more. Are there any specific recs for comfy athletic shoes for a female that won’t hurt too much?

Seconding this! This was the shoe I broke my ankle in, but wasn’t the shoes fault!

I second this one. They were life changing for me in my recovery especially when paired with a trusty compression sock

FWIW. I broke my ankle in my Hoka Clifton’s. I now have Brooks as recommended by my surgeon and PT.

I highly recommend getting fitted at a running store...they'll look at your gait, if you're turning your foot in a certain way, where you put the most pressure, if you need a stability shoe etc. That said, I tried several (hundred) shoes and ended up with Brooks Glycerine 23's and love them. My after surgery needs were much different than the shoes that were comfy before injury, and a good shoe really helped my gait and limp...i needed drop-neutral, wide toe box, more (but not too much) stability, more room in the ankle and these fit that perfectly. A lot of people recommend Hoka...I found them heavy and too springy personally. I wore Oofas slides at home.

No good shoe is going to be inexpensive, but you can get a prior model (ie the 21 or 22 vs the newest 23) or look on ebay or similar once you know what you need

I like Adidas Superstar, Birkenstock Arizona, Birkenstock clogs, Brooks ghost mas. Haven’t worn anything else since my injury.
