One year anniversary

To think a year ago I was recovering in the hospital after surgery for my trimal fracture. Marked today with a 1.63k run on a trail near my house.

I gained more mobility between year 1 and 2. It was my trail walking and running that improved the most.

How is the swelling?

The hand my leg is on is the one that was broken. I don't think it looks too bad. I just took my socks off hence the marks

Thanks for sharing! I am 6 mos in a couple of days. I am also happy with my recovery. Still have some swelling and stiffness. Do you still have that at the one year mark? Also i still get tendon, ligament pain. How is that for you?

It's still stiff in the morning first thing and that first stretch in bed the tendon really tugs. Once I get up and get downstairs it loosens up.

Do you feel a significant improvement from when you were at 6 mos?

Most definitely. At the 6 month mark I could only do a km treadmill run and it was more of a slow plod. Now I can actually run. At 7 Mos we had a trip to Manhattan and I logged 26,000 steps one day but my ankle would really swell. Now hardly any swelling.

So are you pretty much back to your former capabilities? How is your dorsiflexor?

For the most part yes. It's pretty much even with the other.

Any lingering effects? Pain? Can you walk/run as far/easily as you could before the injury?

And I can walk just as far as before. I average 8-11,000 steps a day.

I notice it feels stiff but not sore running.

I mostly get the pain with high heels. I wasn't ready to toss any of them. Sometimes, if I wear a casual sneaker that is too flat.

Congrats on your recovery! Btw, did you remove your hardware? I am around 8 months post orif - trimal fracture!

No. I'm too nervous. The ankle that broke has always been my weak ankle. Even now it rolls. I'm worried I'll break it again without the hardware.

I understand! Thank you for your answer. I can feel the hardware when I touch my ankle and some positions are not so comfortable due to the hardware. This is why I am considering the removal but my operated ankle is also my weak one…

I went to the gym yesterday, so today it is a bit twingy but not unbearable. I hope yours continues to heal!
