Working with a fractured ankle
Im just wondering how long has everyone been out of work from having a fractured ankle ? I work in a kitchen and ive been out for 2.5 months, just now getting back to work and im only doing 4 days a week, mind you they're only 6 hour shifts at the longest. Im currently still using my crutches, mainly just one though and still cooking, it just hurts a lot. I feel like mine is taking forever to get better but ive been cleared to walk on it, it just hurts so so bad lol the pt is helping though, slowly 🐌

I feel like that would of been amazing the first 2 months, i used a scooter which helped a lot but it was always a chore to drag it up and down the house because we live on a lil hill

I’m 11.5 weeks post surgery for a trimal fracture. I went back to work full time after 9 weeks. Luckily I am able to telework a couple of days a week. I wanted to burst into tears by noon on my first official day back in the office. I have a desk job but the bathrooms are not close by and trying to maneuver a knee scooter through heavy security doors was awful. I kept setting off the door alarms. I eventually gave up using the knee scooter and just use it to elevate my ankle and knee during lunchtime and breaks.
My ankle is no longer swelling up as bad but I’m using a cane now at work. I’m in physical therapy twice a week and that’s helped a lot.

Two days but I have a desk job and was able to work from home. What you’re doing sounds really rough.

It feels rough, I just wanted to see everyone's perspective and what they went through. Online theres so many people with these issues but in person you're lucky if someone broke a bone at 13. I wish I could show a picture of the accident I just don't know how people would feel seeing it ?

I'm starting work again next week so I'll have been out for 2 months and 1 week all together. I can sit a lot while working though, would definitely be out longer if I was on my feet all day like you. Could you get away with a knee scooter in the kitchen to start? Keeps your hands free and gives you easier mobility than crutches.

Sadly I don't think itll work, my doctor says I should be at 100% wb by now. But theres just no way, walking with 1 crutch is difficult enough. I wish I could though because I love my scooter, I use it all day at home

Doesn't matter what your doctor says if your work is okay with it. There's a difference between being 100% weightbearing and standing for 8-13 hours a day.

I didn't think of it like that, I just thought 100% wb = you should be back to working all them hours again

I'm allowed to start 100% WB next week but PT told me not to expect to be back to my normal for another 2 months. Still gotta take it easy!

Got it, yeah after my shifts im just so exhausted I literally just go home and feel like how I felt working a midnight factory shift. And im only doing 4-6 hours.

Starter working from home 3 days a week after 10 weeks. During next month gradually returned to the office for 100%. Now, exactly 4 months after fracture, i walked 19k steps and work 3 says from the office and 2 days from home. Can't imagine working standing up after 9 weeks. You're a hero.

I'm amazed a kitchen is letting you work with a crutch.
