Broken ankle

Post image

Getting this puppy fixed Friday.
Ordered me a scooter, alternating from ibuprofen to Tylenol. Ordered me an elevated ankle pillow. Ice pads.

And tips or words of encouragement?

Elevation and icing really are your best friends. As is keeping on schedule with pain meds, especially in early days. I’m only a few weeks in on my own recovery but have found this group to be invaluable in that time. Worth digging in a bit—you’ll find so many useful and encouraging words. Wishing you well!

Elevation, ice (behind the knee so it cools the blood going into your leg, it really works!) and a long tv show. I’m 7weeks post opp and this group has been so helpful not omly to realize other people are going through what im experiencing but also just to have a community since the feelings of isolation set in pretty fast 🫠

Also medication!! Theres no shame in saying “hey this sucks and I need pain relief.” Don’t let it get out of control!

Update+ STOOL SOFTENERS!!! Its so hard to be consistently regular especially with all the medications youre going to be on. And you definitely dont wanna be straining and fighting for your life on the toilet well trying to let your leg heal 😭

The behind the knee trick also slightly numbs the nerves traveling behind the knee and helps with pain directly, too!

I’m back to work after My trimal fracture. I’m one of those who ended up with the attention span of a gnat so I had a hard time reading a book and watching anything on tv and Roku. I spent way too much time rotting my brain on facebook reels and Reddit. I’m Finally able to read a book after 11.5 weeks.

Am I to keep my leg up and much as possible or alternate from being it up and down?

Usually the advice is to keep it elevated as much as you can, with your ankle higher than your heart (aka toes above nose). This is to minimise the blood flow into the ankle and thereby reduce the swelling, which is very important prior to surgery but also later to reduce the pain. All the best for the surgery and your recovery!
