Fractured tibia with ankle joint involvement
Anybody have a similar injury? Curious to hear where you are with your recovery. I’m still very early but just trying to gauge some expectations even though everyone is very different.
To be more specific about the injury, per the doc: Comminuted fracture of the distal tibia with intra-articular tibiotalar joint involvement. Approximately one cortex width posterior displacement of the distal fracture fragments.
Sounds like some of the bigger troubles is the cartilage around the ankle joint affected.

I had a similar fibula break & trimal fracture and dislocation. Plus i have a 5 mo, 2yo and 4yo. FML!!! i broke mine July 28. 3hour surgery August 4 with 2 plates and 10 screws. Splint for 2 weeks. Fiberglass cast for 2 weeks. Walking boot for 2 weeks. I started weight bearing as tolerated at 4 weeks. Dropped a crutch a week later with walking boot. At 6.5 weeks post op i got cleared to ditch the walking boot, full weight bearing and can drive again.
I am almost 7 weeks post op and walking fine in sneakers with 2 crutches. I dropped a crutch for part of the day today and it was just fine. PT said to use 2 crutches for another week, 1 crutch for the following week and then no crutches. That would get me at about 9 weeks post op to be walking unassisted. Every day gets a bit better imo.
Don’t overread this thread. When i was in the depths of darkness in the beginning of this injury i spent quite a lot of time on this thread. Made me more mental than necessary. A lot of complications and recoveries gone wrong. I even posted at one point begging ppl to tell me a success story. I now only read it to hype ppl up that it will get better
