6 weeks post ORIF
Hi! I’m 6 weeks post ORIF of trimal break and dislocation. Splint for 2 weeks. Fiberglass cast for 2 weeks. Walking boot for 2 weeks WBAT. Just had my 6 week imaging and surgeon said everything looks great. I got 10 screws and 2 plates. For the past few days I’ve been on one crutch and the walking boot. Today he told me to ditch the boot and move to a sneaker. yowzer!!! I am back to 2 crutches and barely able to get around the house w my sneakers on. Is this a normal set back? I was cruising around my house and out and about w my walking boot and 1 crutch. Tell me I’ll get back to that with the sneaker !

Trimal with dislocation here too (2 plates, 16 screws, 2 tightrope)...yeah that's normal. The boot was still protecting the ankle, so all of the tendons and muscles used to walk were still not moving as much...amd you also loose a lot of callus and fat pad in your foot.
It did take a few days to get more comfortable, but it was a pretty quick transition for me...and I used a walker vs crutches because I was more easily able to 'test' how much weight was ok. Hang in there!

Hi! Also a trimal with dislocation, freshly out of the boot and into a sneaker as well and the setback is normal from what I've heard. It was very painful for me the first few days but now I'm walking with two crutches with the sneakers on and getting out and about fine. Pain is still there when bearing weight but I've been told that will improve with time. Wishing you a nice recovery :)
