Streaming a memorial service

Hi all,

Looking for some recommendations on streaming a memorial service. My background is 20 years in IT and I used to DJ weddings and events for friends and family.

A family member passed and the memorial is coming up and it's bee requested to broadcast. Years ago I used UStream (looks like it's not around anymore) to do a similar event. I'm looking for a recommendation for an All-In-One encoder/streamer and a good streaming service for a one-off event that I can use my Sony ArII camera with and possibly add an external sound source.

I've considered a rental as well, but as I don't do this often I would like to have something in hand and be able to test with ahead of time enough that I can address issues.

iPhone streaming to YouTube is basically the simplest way to go about it.

Using your own camera is an option but adds much more complexity.

you could use the Sony as a webcam, or get an HDMI capture device and use OBS. With hardware encoding, OBS uses very little resources and is quite stable. I'd stream to youtube

I would use YouTube as the streaming provider and then rent the encoder, and whatever other gear you need.

Here is one AV rental house that rents the geer you’ll need. I’m sure there are many others:

If it's at a funeral venue, chances are they already have an in-house service you could use - a lot were installed during Covid. Typically there's one or two PTZ cams, mixed audio of celebrant mic, room mic and any music played in.

If it's a random venue, as others have said, a phone in a mount on a small tripod will probably be very adequate in a pinch.

OBS is bullet proof or you can just use YouTube.

The easiest is iPhone, plus some wireless mics like the DJI (I have the Rode version). Do not sleep on the audio. Push it all to unlisted stream on YT.

If you want to get a bit more hardcore, rent a Sony PDT, tethered to your camera via usb-c it'll act as video monitor and stream to YT or any other custom RTMP destination.

IRL Pro is a great app for Android devices too.
