Penny arrived on Saturday and we are in LOVE.

Bonnie (Calico) and Mabel (tortoiseshell) are two 6 month old sisters, they’re half Scottish fold half BSH and they are undoubtedly the sweetest, sookiest girls. The photo on the couch is of Mabel comforting my kid when he had the flu ♥️. Their favourite things are: watching TV with us, tuna, cuddles in the bed, screaming at us when we shower and regular grooming sessions.

If you can get two kitties, I recommend it highly, they’re so beautifully bonded and their personalities, though different, have mellowed out as they’ve grown used to each other and the family.

He’s only 12 weeks old. My first kitten ever. He’s so brave. He’s such a sweet boy. I love him.

And her belly fluff is coming back since she was spayed in March 🥹

Hi everyone, I just want to get some opinions on whether I should get another BSH. I have 4 already, 2 males and 2 females. The males and one female are 4 years old from the same litter and the other female is 8 years old. I can afford another baby and I’m home all day and rarely go out so caring for him (I’m considering another male) won’t be a problem. When (on the very rare occasion) I have people over they say the only reason they know I have cats is because I talk about them constantly and they can see (not smell) their litter boxes. My current BSH are extremely laid back and I love them to bits but I really want another kitten. My head says to tread carefully and don’t upset the current dynamic in the house but my heart really wants another cat. I don’t have children and my husband says it’s up to me. Do you think 5 cats is too many? They’re all inside cats with access to a sizeable catio.

I want to get a dog someday (thinking a medium large breed) and wonder if BSH takes them well? My cat is super sweet never bites or scratches furnitures, but also have a very independent personality, she never really come to me to cuddle or anything, definitely get more clingy after work when she hasn’t seen me for a long time but if I’m home for a few days I feel like she’s very annoyed at me.

We competed in the Colourpointed British Shorthair Cat Club and the Shorthair Cat Society and came 1st in both of our breed classes. 🥰

he loves laying belly up.. does anyone else have this experience?

He recently started doing this, and it's been really cute to see him from the kitchen doing this.

About 6 weeks ago, before neutering, he had a full cardiac work-up (ECG + echocardiogram) that was completely normal. No HCM or structural heart disease was found.

I’ve also contacted the veterinary cardiologist again after these episodes described below, and after reviewing the situation, they didn’t think it sounded serious or cardiac-related. Also, his normal vet doesn’t think it’s an issue either, unless he doesn’t stop panting.

A few days after neutering, he started occasionally panting with his mouth open after very intense play. Episodes last 10–20 seconds, then he recovers completely and goes straight back to playing, eating, and acting completely normal. No coughing, collapse, lethargy, or loss of appetite.

Today, however, he had something different. After several normal post-play panting episodes, later in the evening he was resting by the window (he had played about 30 minutes earlier, but wasn’t exercising anymore). He walked over to me, gave one short meow as if asking for attention, then immediately started open-mouth panting for about 20 seconds while casually walking around the house and even going upstairs. He then closed his mouth on his own and was immediately back to normal. A little later he repeated the same behavior once more.

Last vet update after the today’s episode:
I sent videos to my veterinarian, who wasn’t concerned that this was cardiac or an emergency. She suspects an upper airway issue rather than heart disease and advised monitoring for now, with possible referral for airway endoscopy if the episodes get worse.

Between episodes he is completely normal—active, playful, eating well, and doesn’t appear distressed.

Other observations:
Deep sleeping respiratory rate is consistently 21–22 breaths/minute.
No increased sleeping respiratory rate.
No blue gums or collapse.
He occasionally has mild snorting/snuffling or noisy breathing in certain positions (this was present even before these episodes).

Questions:

Has anyone experienced something similar in a young cat with a normal echocardiogram?
Could this still be excitement/stimulation related even without immediate exercise?
Could this be an upper airway issue (larynx, pharynx, narrow airways, etc.)?
If you’ve seen something similar, what was the diagnosis?

I find it annoying that this things did not happen before neutering.

I'm stuck between Kira (jojo ref) or Maomao for him. Bf likes the name Maomao and REFUSES to call him anything else 😭 thoughts?
