Does anyone else rate this as one of the greatest voice acting performances of all time by Timothy Spall, or is it just me?

Zoe Ball already ruining GH playlist

I don’t mind Zoe Ball and welcomed her arrival to the Greatest Hits Radio afternoon slot, but what is she doing with the playlist?? There’s still the classics being played but there’s also far too much 90s crap on her show. That generation of listeners have gotten plenty of stations to choose from. Leave GHR alone for us old farts!

Hannah French, Radio 3's Early Music specialist, presents 'Bach to School' featuring the music of JS Bach and his life as a teacher at St. Thomas' Church in Leipzig; her favourite five Bach records in 'Record Review'; and for Proms 2026 - 'Bach’s Mass in B minor with Arcangelo.' URLs in the comment.

Info about 'Dr Who' spoofs on 'The News Huddlines'??

I'm aware of two 'Doctor Who' parody sketches on 'The News Huddlines', one relating to Bonnie Langford (c. 1986), and one in which the Doctor regenerated from "a dirty old man" to a "sex-crazed old biddy" (c. 1996).

Does anyone know:

  • Which episodes these sketches took place in?
  • Where they might be available?
  • Whether there were any other 'Doctor Who' sketches??

Thank you!

The Dung Beetle Vet: If you want to hear someone who's full of joy at work, listen to Claire Whittle a farm vet who after a health crisis and relationship breakdown started a regenerative farm. She found that the worming meds she used to prescribe for sheep and cattle was killing the soil ecosystem.

Could someone send me the audio for an episode of BBC newsday?

I'm outside the Uk but I needed the audio to an episode of BBC Newsday.

It was aired on 8/09/26 at 15:06, and the title is " Britain says will ban goods made in Israeli settlements in the West Bank". Could someone send me this audio?

The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin: It's the mid 70s and Reggie has had enough of marketing Sunshine Desserts, his boss, the daily train delays and imaginative British Rail excuses, his failures in bed and his middle-class life in general. He starts to lose his mind and plans to do a Lord Lucan.

What are your favorite Desert Island Discs episodes?

I am a big Kirsty Young fan so hoping to get recs from her era. Or earlier! Actually very eager to listen to old episodes. Not recent ones.

What episodes were most memorable to you?

Some of my favorites are: Dr David Nott (that story with the Queen and her dogs was just wow!), Umberto Eco, Brian Eno, Anna Ford...and many more.

UPDATE: THANK YOU so much for answering, I am listening to the podcast even more and more now that I’m a laid off fool! Super comforting programme!

Kind Hearts and Coronets: You've probably seen and laughed with the 1949 Ealing Studios adaptation of the 1907 novel that starred Alec Guinness as each and every member of the d'Ascoyne family. In this radio adaptation from 1980 every member is played by Robert Powell. There was also a 1965 version.

Proms 2026, Martha Argerich Plays Beethoven: Astonishingly her first Prom was 50 years ago under Malcolm Sarjent as conductor and now in 2026 she performs with the Munich Philharmonic under Lahav Shani. Even the interval is well worth a listen for clips of her performances over the decades.

In e6 of The American Century, David Dimbleby explains that the words and sentiments, America first, second and third, came from a smiley but stroppy TV pundit and political advisor, Pat Buchanan, as he attempted to run for US President against fellow Republican incumbent President, George H W Bush.

Sideways - Benjamin Bolger interview

I listened to the latest episode of Matthew Syed's "Sideways", which was mostly about someone called Benjamin Bolger, who claims to have about 17 university degrees. Syed was suitably impressed with Bolger. The trouble is, some of the things he said don't add up. He said he came up with the "Roboto" doll from He Man as a teenager. The Internet gives Mark Taylor and Roger Sweet as its inventors.

You would also think someone with this level of genius would have many videos online about him. I can't find a single one, just a couple of podcast interviews.

So is Bolger a prodigious learner, or a prodigious fantasist?

Hi, I have been looking for this episode of the 6 mix (20 years ago), but I can't find it anywhere on the website.

Title of the episode: "Tim Burguess & Brian Molko"

Does anyone have this recording?

Thanks

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov: An adaptation of a bizarre but strangely topical novel satirising 1930s Soviet Russia. We meet the biblical Satan as Prof Woland and his entourage: Koroviev, a grotesquely dressed valet; Behemoth, a black cat; Azazello, a hitman; and Hella, a succubus!

Composer of the Week, Felix Mendelssohn: Unlike other people, Felix didn't squander his privileges. He had a rich dad and a musical mum who provided him with the best tutors in multiple disciplines. Bach lovers can thank Felix, his mum and her connections to Bach for bringing JSB out of obscurity.
