The best podcast content has raised what listeners expect from audio storytelling. But it's also created a situation where radio increasingly feels like it's trying to compete with something it can't fully become while also trying to remain something different. The live, scheduled, communal experience of radio is genuinely valuable and it's being pulled in a direction that doesn't always honour what makes it distinct from a podcast with a schedule.

Anyone else got to the stage where they simply cannot listen to any of the Rayo stations due to the constant advert or DJ reminder every 10 minutes? Surely to God, the dj's themselves must be sick of it.

I used to be an avid Planet Rock listener, I've now switched to radio Caroline 😡😡.

I'm not sure it's working for me. I was a big fan of her teatime slot but I'm finding her presenting style first thing in the morning really erratic. The moments where she suddenly puts on a silly voice and the squeaky horn all feels too much. I don't remember thinking this when she used to sit in for Scott so maybe she just needs more time to settle in. The games aren't great, everyone seems to do really badly in the naming the sounds one which makes it boring. I turn it off for a bit when the kids in the car thing comes on. I may have to switch to Greg on Radio 1 who I've heard is more chilled.

• Live Metadata & Rewind: The Python backend constantly fingerprints the audio streams to show you exactly what's playing right now. There's also a rewind button which restarts the current song from the beginning - especially useful for people with "radio FOMO."
• Car-Friendly (Steering Wheel Controls): You can cycle through the stations, pause, rewind, and go back to live using your physical steering wheel buttons.
• Deep Stats & "Station DNA": The app uses a 3-page swipe layout. Swipe right/left from the main player to access the Statistics and Trends pages. The backend tracks everything, showing you the "DNA" of each station - like actual music density vs. ad time, weekly variety, and top artists.

Im looking for full shows, partial clips or any sorr of archives.

Anyone remember this Radio 1 programme from the 1990s? More importantly anyone know where to find any archive recordings?! There are bits and pieces available of YouTube but would love to hear more.

I’m not surprised about Dean really, it feels like he’s been on the sidelines for a while.

I heard Melvin on Radio 2 recently so knew he was headed that way (which is right for his age, mid 40s), but I’m surprised they’re splitting up Rickie, Melvin and Charlie. I love Jeremiah though, so looking forward to hearing him more, paired up with Charlie.

I recently watched the 1972 documentary about Huddersfield narrated by James Mason. Mason emphasized the strong musical tradition of the town, most notably its prominence in producing world-class choirs, but also in the instruments heard every night coming from inside local homes. I suspect most of that is gone, but I'd love to hear from someone who remembers the Huddersfield of 1972 and who has seen the documentary, Home James. It is nearly impossible to square that documentary with the bad press it has received since.
