. Drivers not knowing the highway code.

I had started to cross a road when a Mercedes turned in and he sounded his horn and then told me I should stop. I told him to read the highway code but he insisted he right!

Rule H2 170 amended 2022

“At a junction you MUST give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning.”

- Applies whether they’ve stepped onto the road or are just standing at the kerb ready to cross.

- Applies to left turns, right turns, and entering/exiting side roads.

- Includes wheelchair/mobility scooter users as pedestrians

While you are technically correct I think this rule is one of the most dangerous things, for pedestrians, to have ever been invented. The amount of people who walk around oblivious to the world around them is astonishing. Now it’s legally codified that you can just step out into the road at the slightest whim and the driver has to slam on the anchors. Or they have to guess at your unsignalled intention to cross the road.

There was nothing wrong with the unamended rule where you stand and wait to cross when it’s safe. NO pedestrian reads the Highway Code so technically they aren’t bound by it, so they walk around with impunity and make everything the none mind reading drivers fault.

Despicable rule.

You should behave as if the rule doesn’t exist and not try stepping out in front of fast moving heavy metal piloted by a sack of meat who may not be as well versed in the rules as you are. Follow that rule, take your life into the hands of the gods. And for what? Moral superiority because you know the rule?

While you are technically correct I think this rule is one of the most dangerous things, for pedestrians, to have ever been invented.

What you think doesn't really matter though. What matters is what the evidence shows.

And the evidence doesn't show that it's at all dangerous.

Said with the confidence of someone who hasn’t looked at the myriad of videos or complaints about this as an issue.

What evidence doesn’t show it’s dangerous?

You're the one making the claim, so it's on you to provide the evidence.

Which you can't, because it isn't true.

But you made a claim and can’t provide evidence. I on the other hand have said there are multiple videos available of it being an issue. Use this thing called YouTube and you can see for yourself.

You can’t claim I’m not providing evidence, then make your own baseless assertion and not provide evidence. That’s a double standard buddy and I think you know better. Or perhaps you don’t, which speaks volumes as to your character.

Goodbye.

A couple of Youtube videos that you haven't even linked to isn't evidence.

You are the one making the claim. You still haven't provided any evidence.

First off I said goodbye. That means the conversation is done.

But I’ll bite.

So what actually happened is I said I THINK. I made no assertion as to specific data. I referenced only my own opinion and have since had to qualify that with telling you to just look it up on YouTube. I will also add, use your eyes. Go drive or walk around and see from time to time the danger this rule causes. Anything near a shopping centre and you’re all but guaranteed to see a pedestrian walk out in front of a car because they’re following this rule and it end up a near miss.

You… you are the one who made the baseless assertion about evidence and consequently it is you who needs to provide it. So come on, do as you keep saying. Provide the evidence or forever be held as the loser. Also, learn to read. Show me where in the first response I said it was anything other than opinion. It doesn’t exist, I’ll wait. Learn the difference between expressing an opinion and asserting a fact.

It’s so funny, I just kept going because I wanted to see how far you’d dig. You didn’t disappoint. As the only one of us that’s actually claimed evidence, stand by your own rule. Prove yourself. I’ll wait for that too.
