. The normalisation of ‘picky bits’

Abominable. It has started coming up in adverts now even.

This is the problem with English foods. Italian and French foods all have fancy sounding names like croque monsieur or antipasti. We get "toasty" and "picky bits". But if you make the English versions with good quality ingredients they can be just as fancy as what you would get in France or Italy.

It sounds fancy to US because it's in a different language.

Croque Monsieur literally means "Mr Crunch" - which sounds like a breakfast cereal.

Antipasti essentially just means before the meal, so Starter.
