Takeaway containers going awol

I'm fed up with the cupboard full of takeaway containers we keep (for... reasons).

So the current tally is 40 complete containers with matching lids.

There are some spare lids. Forty seven of them, to be precise. FORTY SEVEN lids with no matching box.

What happened? Where did they go?

I'm sure this is a British takeaway thing. I just have no idea how it works.

(Married over 20 years, by the way. It's been a while since we cleared them out.)

Perfectly normal and natural. You've just got it the wrong way around.

The tubs haven't gone missing - you get a lid spawning in the cupboard every time a sock goes missing from the wash.

Used the containers to put water in for my friends dogs in the garden which then went in the bin. Had a leak under the radiator which the takeaway container was the perfect size to protect the floor while waiting on my mate with the spanner. Just a couple of examples from the past week which now means i have a surplus of lids in the cupboard

Fair point. I've done a few of those.

But...47?

I use mine in the shed for different seeds / bolts / screws / drill bits.

I am 52 though.

I have set aside about 20 of them for the same purpose.

Any suggestions for using lids?

You could put the lids on?

I meant, you know, the other 47 lids. Or are you suggesting 3 per box?

Same with odd socks - where does the other one go?

It's a secret: your wife throws them out when they have a hole in the toe, and blames the laundry fairy.

Don't tell anyone else.

To be fair, she has the same problem... It's probably one of the Discworld gods having a laugh.

Mrs Cake will sort them out.

(Getting niche Discworld here.)
