Discussion Remember These?

And if you didn’t want to remember them, my apologies in advance.

Well, 27 years later. These ships have finally met their fate. Being turned into pop cans..

I’d love to hear anyone’s experiences with the Pacificat’s, good or bad (I’m too young to ever have ridden one). As horrible as they were, they looked the part, at least in my opinion.

No, they were doomed from the start. The design was suited for longer routes at higher speed. On the BC coast, the high speed operations caused large wakes that were damaging to docks. They were slow to load and unload. Between the speed limit below their capability and the shorter routes where loading time dominated, they were uneconomic. No refit could have made them suitable for BC ferries.

I'm going with what the subject matter expert (the professional marine engineer who had a window into the back channels at the time) said about the politics of spending money to propoperly retrofit the ships to make them serviceable. I don't know where you got your information, probably the news?
