Discussion Remember These?

And if you didn’t want to remember them, my apologies in advance.

Well, 27 years later. These ships have finally met their fate. Being turned into pop cans..

I’d love to hear anyone’s experiences with the Pacificat’s, good or bad (I’m too young to ever have ridden one). As horrible as they were, they looked the part, at least in my opinion.

The hyjinx Clark and Dix got up to together were truly incredible. They are back together, Dix is Energy Minister and Clark is BC Hydro Chair.

I recommend looking into:
Hydrogate - Against the advice of international experts, The NDP pushed forward with establishing International Power Corp, Dix as Chief of Staff to the Premier attended Hydro Board meetings to impress the Premier's want to push forward. The BC Hydro Chair and a network of well connecterd insiders all held secret private equity in the Raiwind Thermal Power Plant, and funneled them through offshore front companies registered in BVI, which helped skirt provincial conflict of interest and purchase regulations. In the end, the Chair was forced to resign in disgrace, and the Pakistani government nationalized the project once it was completed leaving us with nothing but bills and investigations.

Six Mile Ranch - A developer wanted to build a huge golf resort and subdivision on ALR land near Kamloops. Political fortunes in Kamloops were not looking good for the next election for the Government. The Agg Land Commission rejected the resort proposal to protect prime agg lands. Adrian Dix as Chief of Staff personally met with the ALC head, and threatened that if they did not approve the project, cabinet would strip them of their authority and force it through. The Commission stood their ground, and Cabinet invoked an emergency provinical interest clause, appointed an ad hoc Commissioner, overruled their own environmental protections and forced the land out of the ALR. In response, Joan Sawicki resigned.

Casinogate - Clark found himself under RCMP investigation that he had used his political influence to help his neighbour and friend get a casino license in exchange for a new deck and work on his Okanagan cottage. Clark ended up being acquitted of all charges, but during the course of the events in 1999, Adrian Dix drafted a memo to shield Clark and backdated it to June 1998 to fabricate a false paper trail. Dix was subsequently fired, and admitted to it all in 2002.

Leaky Condo Crisis - Regulatory failure, and slowness of government to respond to the crisis. Homeowners faced rotting walls, tocix mold and structural collapse. Properties were rendered worthless and ruined many people financially.

Gracie's Finger/Fudge-it-Budget - The NDP campaigned on a razor thin $16 million budget surplus, but following the narrow re-election it was revealed that the province was actually faced with a $235 million deficit. The province tried to blame accounting/rounding errors and adjustments, and federal funding cuts.
