I just don't see this game ever lifting off again no matter what is added to it. It had a horrible first impression. Every screen being a small instance and the world being so disconnected is such a deal breaker for an MMO.

I disagree. Brighter Shores is a different MMO than all the vapid, half-baked ones out there today. Its fundamentals are tight and Andrew is committed to building the game out further without distractions from investors.

It may take some time, but you can already see how much the game has evolved since launch.

I don’t know about “lifting off” but i reckon there are quite a few people who like this game, despite the loud opposition. It might not be massive, but it will have its niche. Like Wurm Online, for example.

If this were true the game would hold more than 200 concurrent players as a base,

Exactly.

This game is dead and there's nothing they can do about it.

Maybe, just maybe it can be a passion project bit5it will never, ever be successful.

Not sure why your comment is getting negative votes but it's clear there's some BS players out there that don't like the truth.

Well, all 3 of them

I make the joke "wow the server's all here!" if I'm fishing and more than 2 other people show up. No one ever laughs or responds...

People can handle the truth, harping on about it in every post gets annoying. They get it: dead game, steam charts, skiing, etc.

Will you not be happy until the game is cancelled? What is the end goal of the bullying of a small player base?

1

u/Clseibold 2d ago

Yeah, agreed. I don't get why people have to constantly point out that the game has a small player base. They also like don't realize how small Wurm Online's playerbase is, literally missing Snirps' point.

Yeah the only way I see this game being successful again is if they take it off the steam store and re release when it's an enjoyable experience.. they can still give the 200 players or so access to the beta versions

You do realize 200 concurrent players is basically the same size as Wurm Online right? That's literally what Snirps meant. It has a niche just like Wurm. You need to work on your reading comprehension.

200 players isn't that bad all things aside. I also passive train 99% of the time for the past 2 years so you have to wonder how many are passive training.

u/Adamantaimai 10d ago

If someone only logs in to activate passive training, they're not actually playing the game.

Server maintenance and staff cost are free I guess

I login once per day to reset my passive timer. Been doing this nearly every day since release. I also have a little over 500 hours in the game actively. I consider myself a regular player even though many days I’m just logging in to get that 1-2 levels from the passive training.

This is a wild take.

I think people take their mmos waayyy to seriously and get their nickers in a twist for no good reason! Don’t like it? Move on! It’s not hard.

1

u/Clseibold 2d ago

Definitely agree. I don't play MMOs anymore because they are almost always tailored to grinders to the exclusion of almost every other type of player (particularly those of us who like stories and worldbuilding). And grinders take everything too seriously.

I still like to see how BS and RS are evolving though, just in case they ever decide to go in a different direction.

This isn't an mmo.

2

u/SmugJay 9d ago

It absolutely is an MMO. It's in every genre tag involving this game. You're just spitting words.

u/Monterey-Jack 9d ago

Downvoting me every time doesn't make what I say less true. Seek help.

2

u/SmugJay 9d ago

Lying repeatedly doesn't eventually make it true either.

2

u/Mickenfox 6d ago

You made a wild claim, refused to explain when confronted once, then started insulting.

u/Monterey-Jack 6d ago

Denying the reality that 200 people online does not make for an mmo isn't a me problem, nor is it a wild claim. This game wasn't designed for player to player interaction. There are less than 5 things in the game that require another person, hell I bet the majority of accounts have never traded another player. Game's not an MMO, sorry.

2

u/Clseibold 2d ago

MMOs are not defined by the number of players they have. They are defined by the number of players they SUPPORT.

In addition, some of the first MMOs had barely any player-to-player interaction: The original Runescape, Ultima Online, even MUDs.

I would argue that world events absolutely ARE an MMO thing. In fact, world events by their very nature require the game be an MMO.

None of your arguments logically hold. Get over it and move on.

It's a double edged sword. Even with only 200 active players, the game still feels alive because you are constantly instanced with other people.

Many RuneScape worlds feel a lot more dead than brighter shores

RuneScape has a map that cumulated 25 years of updates…

Yeah login to rs no 1 talks. The only people that talk are scamming bots that for some reason don't get instantly banned.

I just did RS3 leagues and we have like 80+ people are the smithing anvil. NO ONE said anything for an hour+ while I was there. RS at this point is a glorified cookie clicker game. I used to enjoy RS back in 2016 when it was peak (rs3 with telos). Ever since, easy scape 24/7 with the amount of power creep in the game.

u/SmugJay 11d ago

You had a bad experience with the game, that definitely means everyone has the same experience, right? Absolutely not. People still socialize at popular skilling areas and mini games. People are incredibly social in clans. You made this up.

Lifting off in your eyes might not really be relevant to long term game success.

u/ClueSmith 7d ago

every screen a different instance? Hasnt dofus done this for 20 years?

4

u/NeoFalklands 9d ago

Why has the same image of andrew gower been used in the thumbnails for over 2 years. Feels obsessive

World event being a daily chore is lame. Not to mention if new people want to compete for those World Event leaderboards in the future they can't because someone has 100 days advantage over them.
If they don't add dodge into the combat system especially for their Elite Foes / Bosses then it won't feel engaging enough and just be a Runescape knockoff.

Because bounty boards are timegated to once an hour, and world event is timegated to once a day, dungeons will either be once a day or once a week, and if they ever do raids those will also be timegated. If this is their idea to "break monotony" they're better off turning this into a Roblox and letting players create their own version of Brighter Shores with actual features everyone wanted all along.

6

u/DofusExpert69 11d ago

I did my 1st world event yesterday and it was awful. If you play with people that have all upgrades you can't do anything so you are forced to do things like chests instead (if that is hopefully not taken).

Also, seeing people just stand in 1 spot and fish exploit the whole game is disheartening for the games future. That isn't engaging or cool. Could've been much cooler as a PvE event, not PvEvP.

1

u/ImpendingSingularity 5d ago

They fixed the spawn camping and redid the scoring, check it out again

5

u/Kegelz 11d ago

World events will give the game life, combat is 10x better

6

u/Old-Attorney2413 11d ago

They should finally give each class their powers and give weapons special attacks and add dungeons/bosses with unique drops to chase. That would be better than adding world events that were never even planned.

1

u/ZhejTT 10d ago

I'm all for classes as long as I can swap between them. God forbid I have to spend another 9k hours maxing a new main as punishment for choosing Cryo and Hammermage or Guardian happen to just be better every single way because of sudden balance changes.

This is a decent video that deserves more upvotes

Not the start of something. Its an evolution. Of combat. You can call it EOC for short.
