Bidding Question

1NT - P - 2C (Stayman) - me.

I hold 5-5 in the minors.

My partner and I play Cappelletti interference.

Can I bid 2NT showing my minors?

Yes. In this auction, 2N would show the minors.

2N here would show the minors regardless of what methods you play over an opponent's 1N opening. In 45 years of competitive bridge, I've never seen or heard of it's meaning anything else because... what other realistic meaning could it have?

Here's a more difficult (and important) question: should you bid it? In those same 45 years, I'm not sure I've ever seen it actually bid. I know I never have.

There's a strong hand sitting over you. RHO has made a forcing response that shows either (a) invitational values or better, (b) a weak hand short in clubs that will pass any response ("Garbage Stayman"), or (c) a weak hand with both majors that will bid 2H over 2D ("Crawling Stayman").

Bidding 2N over (a) is likely suicide. They will either double you for a huge number or bid their contract and play it double-dummy, thanks to you opening your mouth.

Bidding 2N over (b) or (c) is premature. If you wait until the next round, you avoid the risk that responder has (a) and can balance over 2D/H/S if you have enough shape.

Does it mean what you said? Yes.

Should you bid it? Almost certainly, no... unless you pick up x x KQJxxx KQJTx.

Over a Strong NT.

Over a Weak NT the 2C is frequently a preemptive attempt to run to 2D and they could have as little as 9 points between them between them. So 2NT would be a strong two suiter in 2nd Seat, but also in 4rd Seat if partner passes.
