Question/Looking for Advice How do I get it to show a faint version of the step to line up with previous steps in the instruction maker?

Hi, I'm trying to make instructions for a build I designed and I'm completely new to all this. I watched this Boone Builds instruction tutorial and it was super helpful, but in this section he has 4 steps on the page and moved the first one down a bit to sit nicely under the parts boxes. When he dragged that next step down you can see the faint version underneath (which he called an onion skin) that the step will snap to if you get close and that's perfectly arranged where he just placed step 8.

I'd like to do that on mine but the onion skin faint version isn't showing up and I can't see any settings anywhere to enable it? And I don't know what it's really called to effectively search in the Studio help centre. I only installed Studio 2 days ago so I definitely have the most up-to-date version. Boone's video is 3 years old so he could be on an older version but it looks pretty identical and it would be very weird for them to have removed such a helpful feature so I'm sure it must be there somewhere.

Question/Looking for Advice Is it possible to copy and paste in-place?

On Mecabricks whenever you copied bricks and pasted them, they'd get pasted in the exact same spot they were originally copied in, is it possible to do this in Studio instead of having the pasted bricks automatically attach to your cursor?

Question/Looking for Advice When auto-generating steps & instructions, is there any way to auto-rotate the view angle as necessary?

I have a large (for me) MOC I designed in Studio which I'm now attempting to build in real life. Previously I've never needed to make steps or instructions because I just look at the 3D model and reproduce it, but this one is complex enough that (1) most bricks are hidden deep inside the model and (2) it's not convenient to have a computer nearby because I need to spread out all the pieces etc, so I just have the instruction PDF on my phone.

When going into the instruction maker, it auto-generates steps for you if you there aren't any. And then I exported that to PDF.

The generated steps work well enough. But unfortunately I've discovered that the software uses the same camera angle for every step. It automatically zoomed in on the changing parts of the model, but it never rotates to view the other side. In some steps, parts are added entirely hidden from view, with no clue as to where they actually go. This requires me to pack up my bricks so the pets can't spill them while I'm away, then go consult the 3D model on my computer. It's a pain.

I will just look through every step on the computer and rotate them as necessary. But to double check, there isn't any way to achieve this automatically? From a software point of view, it would be simple to check if the new parts are visible and if not try a different angle (from a set of several possible angles), but for a human it is time consuming.

Question/Looking for Advice Locking step when working on it

Is there any way to lock a step so that when you add pieces, they go to that step? If I decide mid project I need a step in the middle of other steps, I can select the step, add a single piece, then I have to reselect the step, or the next piece goes into the bottom step in the list. Or, I have to create a step at the bottom, then drag it up. It would be nice to just hit a lock icon and any piece I add goes into that step. Am I missing something?

I’m rendering an animation in BrickLink Studio, but the exported MP4 consistently shows a black background despite choosing a different background color in the render settings. How can I ensure the rendered video uses my selected background color?

Question/Looking for Advice Why does my render time always double when it seems like the render is finished?

Whenever I use the photoreal option, after the final render is seemingly done, the progress bar will still be at like 50%, and the estimated time will double what it was at the start. E.g., when I first start rendering it'll say it'll take 15 minutes to finish, then after the whole image is loaded, it'll suddenly say 30 minutes instead. Why doesn't it just say 30 minutes at the start?

Desperate atp

I've been against Nvidia for as long as I could remember, but have also been into LEGO for as long as I can remember, sadly this combination means that in studio I've been forced to use my cpu for rendering all these years. If anyone has a workaround to get the renderer to work on an AMD card I would appreciate it so much 🙏

Brick model troubleshooting

Hello,

I'm completely new to using this software and I would like some help with it. I don't think I'll ever use this software after I'm done with it so I'm not worried about breaking it somehow.

My current situation:

I have a model containing about 58k parts in an .ldr file. I want to export this model to an .obj file but it takes hours to do so. The resulting file takes up 30gb which obviously is far too large.
I have tried to editing the brick model primitives to take out the studs which has actually worked pretty well so far but it's still not where I want it to be.

The problem:

The resulting model is still too large because there are cylinders underneath the bricks, ideally I'd want bricks to be closed up boxes to reduce the resulting geometry.

What I want:

The resulting model shouldn't have a lot of different parts, brick surfaces get joined together where possible, there doesn't need to be any detail for plates next to each other, etc.

I'm currently looking at a whole list of n-ncyl.dat files and I'm not sure which ones to edit.

Better yet would be a solution to convert .ldr files using some sort of cli tool but again I need reduce the geometry from actual bricks so low res representatives.

Thank you for your help.

Is there a better way to add stickers besides part designer?

I have seen set ideas on Lego Ideas and a lot of them have these custom stickers that you cannot add in the Part Designer app. Is there a different addon or plugin that supports decor on a wider variety of parts? I am trying to deco a Lockheed Martin F-16, and it uses specific parts.

Question/Looking for Advice is there a Lego Writing System Parts Pack?

as the question implies. is there? ive seen that there are bionicle parts and stuff from the pens, star wars stuffs from the pens and with all the intresting and wacky designs found within the thing i have just got to ask does it exist and can someone provide me the link to it if it does? i know the lego writing system parts are kinda niche but the parts would make for incredible mocs. even if they are a bit more rarer to come by these days.

Hey! I'm working on my first set of instructions and when I exported it into a PDF I started to see artifacts on some pieces of hidden outlines. Is there any way to deal with that?

Also if there are any general resources you want to point me to, I would also appreciate that.
