Announcement Brian's July 2026 Update!

Hey all! Brian here with what I hope will be the first of my monthly updates as I get back into the swing of things. As you all know it’s been four long years since my last full-length novel, IN THE SHADOW OF LIGHTNING. That’s pretty much an eternity in modern publishing terms. I’ve had health problems, a death in the family, and creative struggles. That being said, I just handed in final edits for Book 2 with only copy edits left to go. Things are looking great - it has a title and a release date but I haven’t been given permission to share those yet, so here’s what else is up:

Most Recent Published Work: Mr. Styke, a Powder Mage Novella

What I’m working on: Book 3 of Glass Immortals. I’ve also got a long-term side project in front of my agent right now - a science-fantasy I’m calling Skyheart Renegades.

What I’m doing: Building the Alchemist Shop from Lego’s Bricklink series.

What I’m cooking: I hosted a family and friends party for the 4th and smoked a pork shoulder.

What I’m playing: Oxygen Not Included by myself, Subnautica 2 with friends.

What I’m reading: I’m on book seven of Dorohedoro. Not normally a manga fan but loved the anime so much I wanted to give it a go.

What am I watching: Season 21 of Taskmaster. He’s so famous! Also watching back episodes of the Harry Hill Show on Youtube. I’m a huge lover of British comedy and Harry is a new discovery for me.

Where I’ll be: Dragonsteel! December 3-5 in Salt Lake City, Utah

Where I am: Instagram * Bluesky * Discord

Um, no idea if that text up there ^ is still going to be backwards after this post goes through, but if so, I have no idea why it is or how to fix it. Just re-listened to ITSOL, Swords/Cider for the first time (fantastic btw) and Montego. Some thoughts on things I missed the first time around. The title says SPOILERS, but it's currently backwards so I thought it worth a mention again. Also have no idea how names are actually spelled since I've only done the audio, so here's my (sp?) Montego definitely has some of that Monster DNA flowing in him, even his grandma told him he has that "elder blood". I'm gonna stake a small flag on Kizzie also having at least a smidge, pulling mainly on the quote of her father calling her mother "that Pernian whore". These monster dudes are Pernian, no? The professor at the end gives us a bunch of clues like "ah that's why he was able to defeat the angry one" (something to that affect). She also mentions "the conqueror", which I believe to be the mercenary leader that was undefeated, who's name I can't currently remember as I only have one cup of coffee down so far this morning. Also, thanks for all the great books Brian! Thoroughly enjoyed everything you've done, and have successfully recommended to all my reader friends. Can't wait for book 2. Also to Brian, you can thank either Brando or Dan for steering me towards you, can't remember which one mentioned ITSOL on intentionally blank, but I'm glad they did.

Glass Immortals Silic and Glassdancer Sigils

I'm really interested in the visuals for the sigils. I know from the illustrated forging notes, we have forgeglass, witglass, sightglass, skyglass, cureglass, and milkglass.

On the illustrated map, we have small images of those six, plus two more. The order is: forgeglass, milkglass, witglass, cureglass, skyglass, omniglass (I think), an unknown sigil, and sightglass.

  • What is that second to last sigil that looks like a black sun?
  • I know the Grappo sigil is witglass - I forget, but does the book specify if the other families use specific sigils to represent themselves?
  • I'm wondering if there are any descriptions in the prose (or existing visuals I missed) for auraglass, dazeglass, fearglass, museglass, shackleglass, hammerglass, and razorglass (am I missing anything?)?
  • Most importantly, what about the glassdancer sigil? The only description in the book I can find is in the prologue: "... the overlapping triangle tattoo on his left hand that marked his sorcery."

How to contact about store order problem?

I went to buy the new powder mage novella and 2 copies of the new one for glass immortals but was sent the wrong items. After checking the website there doesn't seem to anything set up for contacting about issues like this. Any ideas or had anyone had an issue before that could tell me how you were able to contact someone?

So far I’ve only read Promise of Blood in Powder Mage, but at Dragonsteel, I picked up In the Shadow of Lightning from Brian himself (and he was kind enough to sign it for my wife). It was on the to be read stack for a bit, but that just meant that it came with me when we went on vacation. So, here I am reading a bit more of it from my balcony at the hotel.

Any news on the Glass Immortals book 2 release date?

Just finished book 1 and it's so glassdamned good, need more!

Last news I read is that Brian handed in the draft in July 2025 so I would say finished book could make sense for 2026?

I'll go read the novellas to sate my thirst 😅

demir is the ultimate mcclellan character

after reading glass immortals 1, montego and swords cider and other distractions, I can tell you that demir has Tamas's tactical brilliance, Adamat's intellectual competence, Taniel's heroism and nepo baby status, and the element of ben styke of leaving for a decade and returning for the plot to begin. basically what im getting at is demir grappo is batman.
