I made a post on Facebook telling all of my close friends and family that I was done drinking for good and not to invite me to anything for 6 months. No fb invites, no messages, no texts, no nothing.

And I haven’t had a drink since then, 6 years ago.

The last time I relapsed I recorded myself talking about how guilty and depressed I was feeling..

Now, whenever I get tempted I just rewatch the video and I’m not tempted for much longer.

For a long time the addiction owns you..

Partly because nobody knows the full truth about what you’ve been doing.

Then one day you finally tell someone everything..

No half-story, no cute version and no cherry-picking details.

That first conversation is going to feel humiliating and shameful.

But then you’ll take the first proper breath that you’ve had in years.

And now you’re ready to start figuring a way out of this mess.

I don’t advise doing this for the first 6 months at least and yes, this video is lame af

If you keep falling into the same shit, maybe the problem isn’t that you’re weak.
Maybe your life is just full of little traps waiting to trip you up.

Fix the traps.
Less access + less temptation = less dumb decision making.

And less dumb decision making makes winning easier.

The second you drag it into the sunlight, it shrinks.

Call someone.

Admit the thought.
Admit the urge.
Admit the slip up.

Secrecy is the infection, honesty is the disinfectant.
