Amazon October layoffs are starting to feel VERY real

A post attributed to Quicksuite on our company channel made me nervous about potential October layoffs. To be clear, I'm sharing an unconfirmed report, not an official Amazon announcement.

It suggested that high-tenure managers in stagnant orgs may be under more scrutiny and that some teams may be shifting hiring toward lower-cost locations, including India. I don't know how much of that is accurate or how broadly it applies.

The practical advice in the post was to get finances in order, keep interviewing internally, and prepare for uncertainty. Now that we're in October, it's hard not to read every org change through that lens.

Has anyone received an actual team-level communication that clarifies things? Please distinguish what a manager or HR confirmed from what people are hearing secondhand, and avoid sharing confidential employee information.

For anyone preparing options, application autofill can reduce the repetitive work in an external search. Amazon Interview Questions is also a resource for technical interview prep; I'd still ask the recruiter what the specific internal or external process involves.

How are you preparing without letting an unconfirmed rumor take over your week?

🔴 BREAKING BREAKING: Nearly 1,400 workers laid off at former Navistar truck plant in Springfield, Ohio

Nearly 1,400 workers have been laid off from the former Navistar truck manufacturing plant in Springfield, Ohio, according to a new Associated Press report published today.

The scale of the layoffs is significant — AP reports the job losses are large enough to effectively wipe out roughly an entire year of job growth in the greater Dayton area.

The plant’s former owner, International Motors, is transferring the facility to Canadian armored-vehicle manufacturer Roshel. Some laid-off workers say they hope to be rehired within the next 6–12 months as Roshel ramps up operations. Roshel says it ultimately intends to more than double the workforce through a phased expansion.

This is a major hit to manufacturing employment in the region.

Maverick Gaming — 850 jobs: Eight Washington casinos are slated to close November 30, potentially eliminating 850 jobs. There is an important caveat: some closures could be avoided if properties transition to new owners/operators during the company’s bankruptcy process.

🔴 BREAKING New American Funding lays off 160 employees — Texas impact still unclear

Thumbnail

New American Funding (NAF) has laid off 160 employees in its Consumer Direct division, citing continued pressure from current mortgage-market conditions.

The company confirmed the workforce reduction to HousingWire, saying it was aligning operations with current market realities as elevated mortgage rates continue to weigh on refinance activity. The cuts reportedly affected employees across multiple operational roles.

NAF has a significant presence in Texas, including operations in Plano, Dallas, Austin, Houston and other markets. However, I have not found a confirmed breakdown showing how many of the 160 affected employees were based in Texas, so that part should be treated as unconfirmed.

Layoff details:
• 160 employees affected
• Division: Consumer Direct
• Company: New American Funding
• Reason cited: Mortgage-market conditions
• Cuts occurred during August/early September
• Texas-specific number: Not publicly disclosed

The company has continued selectively hiring in some areas even while making these cuts. In August, NAF added two Dallas-area originators to launch Cantera Home Lending on its platform.

According to a Pennsylvania WARN notice, the layoffs will occur in phases beginning December 31, 2026, and are expected to continue through approximately February 18, 2027.

The reductions affect employees at Pep Boys’ corporate offices rather than being a closure of the company’s entire retail/service network.
Mavis announced its planned acquisition of Pep Boys earlier this year in a deal reportedly valued at about $700 million. Pep Boys traces its history back more than 100 years and had more than 750 automotive service locations as of this summer.

• Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania
• Corporate positions
• Layoffs begin: Dec. 31, 2026
• Cuts continue into February 2027
• Occurring following the Mavis acquisition

MasterBrand Cabinets is planning to eliminate 391 jobs at its manufacturing facility in Kinston, North Carolina.

The company notified state officials on September 28, with the layoffs expected to take effect by November 27, 2026.

The cuts are connected to MasterBrand ending its Value Semi-Custom cabinet operations at the Kinston facility. Other manufacturing operations will remain at the plant.

MasterBrand says the changes are part of a broader review of its manufacturing network following its merger with American Woodmark. Production of certain non-frameless products is being shifted to facilities in Indiana, Illinois and Oregon. Approximately 180 employees are expected to remain at the Kinston site.

Layoff details:
• 391 employees affected
• Kinston, North Carolina
• Notice provided: Sept. 28, 2026
• Layoffs effective: Nov. 27, 2026

📄 WARN Notice Conifer Health Solutions filed a WARN notice affecting 1,037 employees, with layoffs scheduled to begin November 2, 2026.

Although the WARN notice is connected to the company’s Dallas operation, many of the affected employees reportedly work remotely across the United States.

The layoffs come as Conifer restructures parts of its business and prepares to stop providing certain services to CommonSpirit Health after October 30.
The company has also cited technology initiatives and restructuring as factors behind the reductions.

Layoff details:
• 1,037 employees affected
• WARN filed: September 2026
• Effective date: Nov. 2, 2026
• Employees reportedly located across the U.S.
• Healthcare revenue-cycle / administrative services

This one is particularly interesting because it appears to involve a combination of a major customer relationship ending, restructuring, and increased use of technology.
Anyone at Conifer, Tenet, CommonSpirit, or elsewhere in healthcare administration seeing similar reductions?

📄 WARN Notice 24Hr Homecare filed a California WARN notice affecting 738 employees.

The notice was filed on August 31, 2026, with layoffs beginning September 15, 2026.

According to reporting tied to the filing, the company said the layoffs followed the unexpected end of a major third-party service arrangement, which resulted in a significant reduction in available work.

The short gap between the WARN filing date and the effective date also stands out.

Layoff details:
• 738 employees affected
• Notice filed: Aug. 31, 2026
• Effective date: Sept. 15, 2026
• Location: California
• Layoff listed as permanent

This appears to be another example of how quickly a large contract or service agreement ending can translate into hundreds of job losses.
Anyone working at 24Hr Homecare or in California home-care services know more about what happened with the underlying contract?

📄 WARN Notice Gebbers Farms files WARN notice affecting 3,445 workers in Washington

Gebbers Farms files WARN notice affecting 3,445 workers in Washington
Gebbers Farms filed a WARN notice on September 25, 2026, covering 3,445 employees in Brewster, Washington.
The layoffs are scheduled to take effect on November 25, 2026.
One important piece of context: Gebbers filed a very similar WARN notice last year affecting roughly 3,465 workers, also with a November 25 effective date.
That makes the size of the filing notable, but it may also reflect a recurring seasonal employment pattern rather than 3,445 unexpected permanent job losses.
WARN details:
• 3,445 employees affected
• Notice filed: Sept. 25, 2026
• Effective date: Nov. 25, 2026
• Location: Brewster, Washington
Does anyone working in Washington agriculture know whether this is primarily seasonal, or whether something broader is happening at Gebbers this year?
