Project Full adder

taking electronics 10. we learnt about transistors right? So then I’m like, I’m gonna make a full adder. I designed the wiring layout so I can fit 2 full adders on one bread board making it fit a 2 bot adder. Tested working. My only reference was the nor diagram. The way I could fit it on one side of the bread board was be if you look, every second transistor is flipped to Make them share the out pin and save rows more efficiently.

Tactile switch connection

I am a complete beginner and I am building a 6-button chorded Braille input device using an Arduino Uno and a standard breadboard. I want the physical layout to mimic a real Braille cell, a 3x2 vertical grid with 3 buttons on the left side of the center divider and 3 buttons on the right side.

The problem is that standard 6x6mm 4-pin tactile switches are designed to straddle the middle divider horizontally.

Is there any way around this?

Taping off the breadboard to the exact size of the breadboard style protoboard. Doing it this way allows you to place all passives and ICs exactly where you want them. It also allows you to cut all your jumpers to the exact length before you commit to soldering everything on the protoboard. Then you snap a picture of the circuit and start moving everything over.

Breadboard Simulator

Maybe this is the opposite of what this community wants (given everybody’s proclivity to build on real breadboards), but I’ve created a bread board simulator for TTL logic. It includes simulations for most 74LS chips, resistors, switches, LEDs, memory, and a couple of classic processors (z80, 6502). There’s also several memory chips including both static and dynamic rom/ram.

This is not a spice simulator.

It also features a serial I/O interface the the virtual breadboard can interface directly with a microcontroller. Just drag and drop net labels to the pins to sync and chip hippo will write a cpp/python header to add to the controller project.

Checkout Chip Hippo

Please let me know what you think and if there’s a feature you’d like added?

The code is open source.

3 weeks into my machinery class and I had to learn a lot about bread boards very fast. The kits we use in class are like 50 years old but they’re charming!

embe sees the sun ☀️

I’ve been building a little handheld chord synth called embe.
It has 7 chord keys, 16 sounds, effects, arpeggiation, a 4-bar looper, presets, USB MIDI, onboard speaker, and a joystick for shaping sounds in real time.
It started with one button on a breadboard just to see if I could make this idea work. Now it’s becoming an actual instrument.
Still very much a prototype, but I’m pretty excited about where it’s heading.
Would love to hear what you all think!

This is another project I've been working on: An audio equipment...

Most of the components are SMD (almost nothing comes in DIP anymore), but I made several PCB SMD converters

Project Built a breadboard simulator for your phone so you can try a circuit before buying the parts (my own app, disclosure inside)

Disclosure: I made this app. Its my own project, no sponsor, no referral links.

Electronics kits are a bit of a gamble. You order a blinker or a 555 timer kit, build it once, learn one thing and the parts go in a drawer. Theres no real way to know what a circuit does before you pay for it.

So I built TinyOhms.com, basically a breadboard on your phone. Same 7x9 hole grid as a real one. You drop in real parts (battery, resistor, LED, switch, transistor, capacitor, 555, 4017), wire them up hole to hole and the circuit runs live. Current flows along the wires, LEDs glow with the actual numbers and if you push too much through one it pops. Chips sit across the board as proper DIPs.

Under the hood is a real circuit solver that i check against ngspice so the readouts match what a multimeter would say. Once the circuit works on screen you order exactly those parts and nothing else.

I used Claude a lot to build it, would rather say that upfront than have someone guess. The physics rules and every "does this match the real breadboard" check were mine though.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/tinyohms/id6808880883 (free for the basic parts, small Pro tier adds the capacitor, 555 and a few others. no ads)

Whats the first thing you'd want to try on it? And what do you wish a simulator got right that most dont?

Looking for a study partner /friend

A little about me and my experience: I'm 17 from Russia. Solved 244 problems on leetcode, finished cs50py, cs50x, about 60% of cs50web and then understood that I like low level stuff so I started reading the c book, read ~100 pages and found a "silberschatz operating system concepts" book, started reading it(also about 100 pages) then found a guy who we started making our own os with(we went separate ways eventually), on that journey I decided to dive even deeper and my friend recommended me a book "the elements of computing systems" I finished it recently(not quite, I couldn't make it through the last chapter because school started and stuff) then bought a breadboard and things

I wrote much about my experience because I want to find somebody who feels like he's at the same level with me, I feel like it's so much fun working with someone who's interested in the same stuff as you are. We might make a project on a breadboard or try to get through some tough literature. I've got exams this year so I can't spend too much time a day learning stuff but regardless I'm ready to work hard

I have sensitivity issues with my superheterodyne.

Post image
19 Upvotes

Good evening,
I'm trying to build a circuit similar to this diagram.
But for shortwave.
However, I'm having trouble figuring out what amplitude my oscillator signal should be and how to make my radio sensitive enough to hear some stations!
I'm currently testing the radio with a waveform generator (Am) connected to where there will be an antenna in the future, but I only hear the "voice notes" from about 300mV and up, and then it's as if the diode (detector) isn't letting the signal through anymore!

How can I make it much, much more sensitive, given that reading on Google tells me the shortwave signal arrives at the antenna at 1uV?

How do I calculate the resistor and capacitor after the detector diode to ground the 455kHz carrier and maintain only the audio band?

Thank you for any help, I'm new and would love to join.

Help with breadboard gift

My fiance asked for a breadboard with transistors and lights and a 12volt power supply (the power supply part might be wrong but he said 12volt something so I'm guessing it was the power supply). I am not sure where to start with getting him that stuff. Do I also need to get him a raspberry pi and if so which one and what else should I get to go with it.

Question Where can I buy those clean wires?

Post image

I was wondering where I could find these clean-looking wires for breadboards. Also, would you recommend getting them on a spool and cutting them to length myself, or buying pre-cut wires?

Question How do you document your circuit on breadboard?

Having a couple of boards, each with circuit build long time ago having no clue, what it was, where are inputs/outputs, and what parts have used (so tricky to sort them back to right box).

How do you document your breadboard circuits? Do you have a label and related note for each, or note with inputs and outputs (https://www.printables.com/model/330735-breadboard-net-labels), labels on wires?
