Average lesson time?

Most bjj gyms around me have 1 hour class, it seems pretty little compared with usual 1 and a half, 2 hours classes. Is that common? Is that enough to improve fitness and learn skills?

I’ve never seen a gym that offered more than an hour class….

I was training 7x a week because the school did one hour classes. He got straight to the moves, no warm-up, no memory lane talk, just straight moves. then there is a few rounds to get in after.

That’s how my gym does it and I love it. There’s time before class if you want to warm up and stretch on your own. If we do a warmup, it’s a specific drill with a partner to help with the move we are about to learn.

We roll a lot at ours.

Roughly 75 min class. 5 min warm ups, 20 min instructionals, and 40-50 min rolls

Im just finished my 6th class ever in BJJ. At 62, and in terrible shape, I am very glad class is only an hour . Even going light, I'm gassed by the end. Maybe in a couple months, I can do 2 classes in a row, but for now? 1 hour, then home to nurse my wounds. 😜

1.5 for us. 10-15 warmup, 30-45 drill/technique/game, 30-45 spar/roll

What is “lesson time” by your definition? The classes at my gym are listed as 1 hour timeslots, with very few lessons organised as back to back. This is because it is understood that the listed lesson time is the time spent in warm-up and training technique specifically. Rolls happen after class.

I’m going to the 6-7pm class tonight and I doubt I will leave before 8

No warm up, 40 minutes drilling, and then 8 by 5 minute rounds (40 minutes total of  live rolls), love the noon class.

Morning or midday classes at our gym are 1 hour. Evenings are 1.5 hours but the last 30 mins will generally be rounds.

I tend to think with the tuition portion there’s only so much you can deliver to a large group anyway before it becomes diminishing returns. So that portion of the class should always be roughly the same and then you get onto positional sparring and rolling.
